Thick Norwegian wool socks for extra warmth
These are the socks many customers return for every autumn: sturdy Norwegian wool socks in beautiful colors and patterns. The thick models provide more insulation than our thin socks and are wonderful in spacious shoes, boots, and slippers.
The collection consists primarily of socks made from organically certified virgin wool, manufactured by Hirsch Natur in Germany. In addition, you will find some models here in which wool is combined with linen. Check the precise material composition for each product, as not every pair in this collection is constructed the same way.
Do thick wool socks fit in your shoes?
A thick sock needs space. If your shoe is already tight with a regular sock, a thicker model can cause pressure and extra friction. That is less comfortable and can prevent your feet from staying pleasantly warm. Therefore, choose these socks primarily for roomier shoes, boots, or slippers.

Special colors and exclusive patterns
In addition to classic Norwegian color combinations, at Natur-el you will find various designs created exclusively for us. For example, we combine the recognizable Hirsch Natur model with colors you won't find just anywhere. Whichever version you choose, pay close attention to the size and the available space in your shoes when ordering.
Hirsch Natur sizing
Hirsch Natur generally runs large. Are you doubting between two sizes? Then usually choose the smaller size. Wool can become slightly roomier during wear. A sock that is too large can bunch up and slide, which is less comfortable to wear and can cause extra friction.
The cuff contains small elastic bands that help prevent the sock from slipping down. Do you have sensitive or sturdy ankles and are you unsure about the fit? Please contact us or come by to try on different models.
Airing and washing wool socks
Wool is less prone to absorbing odors, which means you usually do not have to wash these socks after every wear. Hang them out overnight and let them dry thoroughly. This gives the fibers a rest, and you can often wear them again.
Is washing necessary? Choose the wool wash cycle, a low temperature, and a low spin speed. Use a suitable wool detergent, such as Lanalicious with lanolin, and no fabric softener. Let the socks air dry and do not put them in the dryer.
Pure wool can wear out
Pure wool socks do not contain synthetic reinforcement and can therefore be more susceptible to wear. Always wear them indoors in well-fitting house shoes or slippers and do not walk directly on the floor with them. Extra friction also occurs in shoes that are too loose or too tight.
Regularly check the toes, heels, and the ball of the foot. Do you see the wool getting thinner? Then reinforce that spot before a larger hole appears.
