Woolen socks Striped woolen socks
Striped wool socks from Hirsch Natur: color for your toes
Wool socks boring? Well, then you haven't seen these striped wool socks from Hirsch Natur yet. Because yes, they are warm. Yes, they are made from 100% organic wool. Yes, they are ethically produced in Germany. But they are also just really cheerful. And sometimes that is exactly what you need. Especially on those gray days when your outfit says: I'm not doing anything exciting today.
These striped wool socks bring color to your feet without being over the top. Whether you like soft natural tones, warm colors, or a more striking stripe: there is always a pair among them that makes you think: yes, those can come home with me. And the best part: they are just as warm, breathable, and natural as our well-known Norwegian socks from Hirsch Natur, but with a playful twist.
100% organic wool, no plastic nonsense
These socks are made from pure organic wool. No polyester, no nylon, no synthetic reinforcement hidden in the knit. Just wool. That makes them wonderfully warm, breathable, and completely free of microplastics. And you can feel it. Wool keeps your feet warm, but also lets them breathe. This makes you less likely to get that clammy, stuffy sock feeling that you sometimes get with synthetic socks.
What I often hear in the shop: "I thought wool would be itchy, but these actually feel soft." And I get that. Good wool really feels different. Especially if your feet get cold easily, wool socks are one of those little daily luxuries you get addicted to faster than you think.
Why wool socks are so great
Wool is naturally temperature-regulating. This means your feet stay warm when it’s cold, but don't immediately overheat as soon as you're indoors. In addition, wool can absorb a lot of moisture without feeling wet. Wool also has self-cleaning properties. Read: you really don't have to throw these socks in the wash after every wear.
Letting them air out outside for a bit is usually enough. That might sound almost too good to be true, but wool is just capable of that. And honestly, washing less is not only better for your socks, but also for your energy bill, your laundry basket, and the world. Win-win-win, I would say.
Note the size: they run large
Important to know: the striped wool socks from Hirsch Natur run on the generous side. Are you debating between two sizes? Then usually choose the smaller size. A sock that is too big can shift in your shoe, and shifting means friction. And friction means faster wear and tear. Socks aren't happy about that. Neither are you, for that matter.
Thanks to the fine knit, the socks fit beautifully without feeling tight or pinching. The cuff is soft and contains an elastic thread that doesn't lie directly against your skin. As a result, they stay in place well, but you don't get those annoying pressure marks around your ankles. Also nice if you have sturdier ankles or just don't like socks that act like they're the boss.
100% wool is fantastic, but not indestructible
Let's be honest, because that's part of it. These striped socks are made of 100% wool and therefore contain no synthetic reinforcement. That makes them natural, breathable, and plastic-free, but also slightly more fragile than socks with nylon or polyester in them. Durable does not mean indestructible. Certainly not with socks, because they take quite a beating.
Therefore, preferably wear them in well-fitting shoes and rotate between several pairs. Do not walk on them all day on rough floors without shoes, because then you are asking a bit too much of them. With three pairs of socks, you always get a 10% discount from us. Not just to make you buy more, but because rotating really extends the lifespan of wool socks.
Got a hole? Don't throw them away immediately
A hole in a wool sock is not a disaster. Really not. It is mainly a sign that you have worn them with love. And the nice thing is: wool socks are very easy to darn. At Natur-el, we sell darning wool, darning eggs, and other fine tools to repair your socks yourself.
That might sound old-fashioned, but it actually makes perfect sense. Why would we throw something away if you can fix it? A small hole doesn't mean the end of the story. Darn it, put them back on, warm feet returned. Sustainability can sometimes be that simple.
Washing wool socks: airing is better than washing
So you don't have to wash wool often. In fact, preferably not. Hang your socks outside after wearing them or place them in a spot where they can air out. Do you want to wash them anyway? Then always do it carefully. Use a cold wool wash program, very little detergent, and choose a wool detergent with lanolin, such as Lanalicious.
Lanolin helps keep the wool supple and strong. Do not put your wool socks in the dryer and do not place them on a scorching hot heater. Just let them air dry gently. Wool is strong, but you have to be a little kind to it.
What does KbT-certified wool mean?
Much of the wool from Hirsch Natur comes from controlled organic animal husbandry, also known as KbT. This means that there are strict rules for animal welfare, nutrition, living conditions, and the use of chemicals. The sheep get more space, are treated better, and the wool is processed without nasty, unnecessary treatments. At Natur-el, we do not sell mulesing wool. Period. Because warm feet are wonderful, but not at the expense of animal suffering.
