Hirsch Natur Norwegian Wool Socks Starry Night
Starry Night might sound like dark blue with white, but these special Norwegian socks feature much warmer colors. The base is a deep burgundy brown combined with ice blue, ecru, and soft earth tones. A bit of the night sky, a bit of hot chocolate, and above all, plenty of color without being garish.
These Hirsch Natur socks are in model 030: a sturdy, thick-knit sock made of 100% organic wool. They are intended for cold days and shoes that have enough room for a fuller wool knit.

What specific colors are in Starry Night?
The base color is a very dark burgundy brown, which can also appear somewhat chocolate brown depending on the light. Running through the pattern are ice blue, ecru, and soft beige motifs. The plain cuff, heel, and toe are made in the same dark base color.
The cool blue details create a nice contrast with the warm brown. This makes Starry Night combine surprisingly well with denim, dark blue, cognac, cream, brown, and burgundy.
Wool is a natural product. The exact color nuances and the mottled structure may vary slightly per pair or shipment. Also, the color may appear differently on a screen than in daylight.
Who are these thick Norwegian socks suitable for?
Starry Night is a good choice if you are looking for warm socks for roomy winter boots, work boots, hiking boots, or slippers. The sturdy knit provides more volume and insulation than a thin everyday sock.
This style can be pleasant for:
- cold days in autumn and winter;
- people who like wearing thick socks in roomy shoes;
- leisurely walks and daily outdoor use;
- wearing at home in well-fitting slippers;
- anyone who prefers natural materials over synthetic fibers.
The socks have not been specially developed as technical sports socks. They have no compression zones, separate cushioning areas, or synthetically reinforced heels and toes.
Do Hirsch Natur 030 socks fit in regular shoes?
That mainly depends on your shoes. Model 030 is significantly thicker than a cotton sock and requires extra room. In a roomy boot or hiking shoe, this quality usually fits better than in a snug sneaker or dress shoe.
After putting them on, check whether your toes can still move freely. Are your feet being pressed firmly into the shoe by the sock? Then choose a thinner model. A thick sock in a shoe that is too tight is not only uncomfortable, but can also actually feel cold.

What does wool do while being worn?
Wool retains air between its fibers, helping to keep warmth around your feet. At the same time, the material can absorb moisture without feeling clammy immediately. This makes pure wool socks pleasant when you are alternating between indoors and outdoors.
How warm or soft the socks feel varies by person. Your shoes, activity, and the outside temperature also play a role. Those sensitive to wool may find the sturdy knit a bit itchy at first.
Which Starry Night size should I choose?
Hirsch Natur socks fit generously and can loosen slightly while being worn. Therefore, if you are in doubt between two combined sizes, choose the smaller size.
- Shoe size 39 or 40: usually size 38/39
- Shoe size 41 or 42: usually size 40/41
- Shoe size 43: usually size 42/43
Use this as a guideline and also look at the shape of your foot. The formed heel of the sock should be roughly on your own heel. Is there a lot of material left at your toes, or does the heel come up above your foot? Then the sock is likely too big.
A well-fitting sock slips less in your shoe. This makes for a more comfortable walk and helps reduce unnecessary wear and tear from friction.
Do 100% wool socks stay in place?
In the upper part of the cuff, a few very fine elastic threads are incorporated. These are embedded in the wool knit and do not come into direct contact with the skin. They give the cuff enough support to keep the sock up along your leg.
There is no nylon or elastane running through the foot area. As a result, the sock fits less snugly than a synthetic sports or compression sock.
What do customers say about Starry Night?
Customer experience: a customer has been wearing almost exclusively these types of wool socks for several years. She rotates several pairs and regularly lets them air out outside for a night. She personally experiences that her feet do not feel sweaty in these socks and has since made family members enthusiastic as well.
Customer experience: another customer simply describes Starry Night as wonderfully warm and beautiful in color.
These are personal experiences and not a medical or general guarantee. How much your feet perspire and how warm a sock feels varies by person, activity, and shoe.
Can you wear Starry Night as a house sock?
Only when wearing slippers over them. The socks have no anti-slip sole and can be slippery themselves on a smooth floor. Walking directly on wood, laminate, tiles, or carpet also causes a lot of extra friction.
Although the thick knit feels as if it could serve as a slipper, it was not made for that. Well-fitting slippers protect both you and the sock.
How long do pure wool socks last?
Unfortunately, there is no fixed answer to that. These socks contain no synthetic reinforcement at the heel, toes, or sole. This gives you the natural feel of 100% wool, but makes the material more sensitive to repeated pressure and friction.
The lifespan is influenced by, among other things:
- the fit of the sock;
- the space and interior of your shoes;
- rough or damaged insoles;
- calluses, nails, and the shape of your toes;
- your way of walking;
- how often you wear the same pair in a row.
For one wearer, a pair will last for several winters, while for another, a thin spot may develop much sooner. Normal wear and tear is not a product defect and is not covered by the warranty.
What to do if there is a thin heel or toe?
Check your socks after wearing them at the heels, toes, and ball of the foot. Do you see the knit getting thinner? Repair the spot before a large hole develops. A preventive repair is easier and prevents the knit from fraying further.

How to care for Starry Night?
Let the socks air out after wearing them and preferably give them a day of rest. Wool naturally stays fresh for a long time, so washing after every wear is not necessary.
Is washing still necessary? Then follow the care label and choose a genuine wool wash program at a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius with a low spin speed. Do not use a regular wash program, fabric softener, or a tumble dryer.
Wash with a small amount of suitable wool detergent containing lanolin, such as Lanalicious. Do not wring the socks out; instead, gently press out excess water. Then reshape them and let them dry flat in the air.
