All about this product

Hirsch Natur Norwegian wool socks Autumn

Autumn is fall in sock form. A warm rust-brown base combined with light blue, bright blue, gray, and ecru in an exuberant Norwegian pattern. It’s like walking through a forest of fallen leaves while the sky is still brilliantly blue – but without the mud on your shoes.

These sturdy Norwegian socks from Hirsch Natur are made of 100% organic virgin wool from controlled organic animal husbandry (KbT). The thick knit provides warmth and light cushioning, making them wonderful for spacious boots, clogs, work shoes, and sturdy winter footwear.

  • Made of 100% organic virgin wool (KbT)
  • Warm Norwegian pattern in rust-brown, blue, gray, and ecru
  • Sturdy and thick-knit
  • Breathable and moisture-regulating
  • Suitable for men and women
  • Naturally less prone to odors
  • Made by Hirsch Natur in Germany
  • Fits large: usually choose one size smaller

A Norwegian sock that deserves to be seen

While many wool socks are primarily practical and neutral, Autumn likes to add a touch of coziness. The rust-brown base keeps the look warm and natural, while the various shades of blue make the pattern feel fresh.

This combination pairs surprisingly well with denim, dark blue, brown, beige, olive green, and gray. It is a colorful sock, but one that fits in beautifully with the colors many people wear in the fall and winter.

Wool is a natural product. As a result, the shade and texture may vary slightly per pair or production batch. This is inherent to the material and gives every pair its own natural character.

How thick are the Hirsch Natur Autumn socks?

Autumn belongs to the 030 series from Hirsch Natur. These are the sturdier Norwegian socks in the collection. They are knitted noticeably thicker than the thin models from the 156 series, providing more insulation and light cushioning around your foot.

This thickness is best utilized in shoes with enough room. Think of spacious boots, clogs, work shoes, or slightly wider winter and walking boots. In a tight sneaker or dress shoe, the knit may take up too much space.

A thick sock is only warmer when your foot isn't being compressed. If the sock makes your shoe too tight, there is less room for insulating air, and your toes may actually feel colder.

Warm socks for cold days and outdoor work

Due to the thicker knit, these socks are great for cold days, outdoor work, and other moments when your feet could use extra warmth. Wool retains heat, but can simultaneously absorb moisture without feeling wet or clammy.

A customer who loved the Autumn socks mentioned that her outdoor work inspired her to look further into wool clothing. That is a personal customer experience and not a guarantee against the cold, but it shows why wool is so popular outdoors: it insulates without completely trapping your feet in a synthetic layer.

Wool also holds onto odors less than many synthetic materials. As a result, these socks usually don't need to be washed after every wear. A good airing out is often enough.

Important sizing advice: Hirsch Natur fits large

Usually, choose these socks one size smaller than your regular shoe size. Hirsch Natur socks fit large, and pure wool also becomes more supple while being worn.

For example, do you wear a size 40 or 41? Start by looking at size 38/39. For size 42 or 43, we usually recommend size 40/41. Do you have wide feet or wear the socks intentionally loose in very spacious boots? Then your own size range can sometimes be comfortable as well.

Existing customer experiences confirm the roomy fit. A customer with a size 40/41 foot found the socks in that same size just a bit larger than her own foot. Another customer had previously bought the long version, knew Hirsch runs large, and ordered these socks a size smaller right away. That size, according to her, was perfect.

When putting them on, always check that:

  • the heel of the sock is centered around your own heel;
  • there is no excess fabric at your toes;
  • the sock does not twist or wrinkle while walking;
  • your toes have enough room to move;
  • the cuff fits comfortably and does not pinch hard.

A sock that is too large will slide and fold, causing extra friction. A sock that is too small will be constantly under tension. Both can reduce comfort and accelerate wear.

Do the socks stay up well around your leg?

In the top approximately five centimeters of the cuff, tiny elastic threads are knitted in. These help keep the sock in place. They are fully incorporated into the knit and do not touch your skin. The material that rests directly against your foot and leg therefore remains purely natural.

The cuff should fit comfortably. It is not a medical, pressure-free, or supportive sock. If you have persistent foot or leg issues or are sensitive to pinching cuffs, please seek personal or medical advice.

Pure wool socks can wear out

Socks made of 100% wool are wonderful, but not indestructible. There are no strong synthetic fibers added to make the sock artificially durable. As a result, thin spots or holes may appear over time, especially at the toes, heel, and ball of the foot.

How quickly this happens varies by person. The size and fit of the sock, the interior of your shoes, your walking gait, toenails, calluses, and how intensively you wear the socks all play a role.

Therefore, do not wear these socks directly on hard floors. Sand grains and other small debris cause extra friction with every step. Indoors, always use properly fitting slippers or house shoes. Note: pure wool socks can be slippery on wooden floors and stairs.

Normal wear and tear is not a manufacturing defect and is not covered by warranty. Check your socks regularly. Do you see a thin spot? Reinforce it before a full hole develops. That is easier, faster, and usually neater to repair.

How to make your Autumn socks last longer

  • With Hirsch Natur, usually choose one size smaller.
  • Wear them in spacious, well-fitting shoes.
  • Prevent the sock from sliding or folding in your shoe.
  • Do not walk on hard floors without slippers.
  • Rotate different pairs and give the wool a rest.
  • Keep toenails smooth and treat sharp calluses.
  • Check the heel, toes, and ball of the foot regularly.
  • Repair thin spots before a hole develops.

Airing out and washing wool socks

After wearing your socks, let them air out thoroughly first. Wool naturally has self-cleaning properties and is less likely to retain odors. Often, a night in a dry, ventilated spot is enough to get them fresh again.

Do they still need washing? Always follow the wash label. Wash them cold or lukewarm. If machine washing is allowed on the label, use only a dedicated wool wash program at a maximum of 30 degrees, with little movement and a low spin speed.

Use a small amount of suitable wool detergent with lanolin, such as our Lanalicious detergent for wool and silk. Do not use regular detergent, fabric softener, or a dryer.

Do not wring out the socks. Gently squeeze the excess water out, carefully reshape them, and let them dry on a flat surface. Never place wet wool on a hot radiator. Heat, friction, and strong temperature fluctuations can cause the socks to shrink or felt.

Wol is fantastisch

And just like that, you were gone!

Was koud of lauw
