Pure wool socks with a colorful Norwegian pattern
This is a true classic from our wool sock collection: the beautiful Norwegian socks 030 from Hirsch Natur. They are made in Germany from 100% certified organic virgin wool and feature a characteristic knitted-in pattern with various colors.
These pure wool socks are warm, soft, and wonderfully comfortable. Wool retains heat well while remaining breathable at the same time. This keeps your feet pleasantly warm without them quickly feeling clammy. Furthermore, wool is much less prone to odors than many other materials.
Model 030 is sturdier and warmer than our thin wool socks 156. Please keep in mind that these socks will take up a little more room in your shoes. They are wonderful in roomier shoes, boots, and slippers, but of course also just lovely to wear at home.
We have model 030 in several beautiful color combinations. The colors are linked together on the product page, making it easy for you to choose your favorite.
Warm feet can make a world of difference
Anyone who has ever been in bed with cold feet knows how difficult it can be to fall asleep comfortably. If your feet are warm, the rest of your body often feels more comfortable too.
We regularly hear from customers that our pure wool socks help them relax more easily in the evening and fall asleep more comfortably. Some customers even say they feel more rested the next day as a result. While this is a personal experience rather than a promise, it does show how much of a difference warm feet can make to your daily comfort.
The pure wool forms a soft, insulating layer around your feet. At the same time, wool remains breathable and helps regulate both heat and moisture. This keeps your feet pleasantly warm without them quickly feeling clammy.
Which wool socks are right for you?
Are you unsure between our thin and thick socks, solid-colored models, Norwegian socks, or hiking socks? We clearly explain the differences in our complete wool sock buying guide. This makes it easier to find the right socks for your shoes, usage, and warmth requirements.
Hirsch Natur wool socks run large
Hirsch Natur socks generally run large. If you are between two sizes, choose the smaller size.
For example, if you wear shoe size 39/40, we recommend size 38/39. If you wear size 40/42, choose size 40/41. Wool can also stretch slightly during wear. Socks that are too big can bunch up or fold over, which is less comfortable and can cause extra friction.
The top few centimeters of the cuff contain tiny elastic threads that help prevent the socks from slipping down. These elastic threads are on the outside of the knit and do not touch the skin. The cuff is not overly tight, which can make the socks comfortable if you are prone to indentations around your ankles.

You don't need to wash wool socks very often
Wool has natural self-cleaning and odor-resistant properties. As a result, you usually need to wash these socks much less often than cotton or synthetic socks. Often, airing them out overnight is enough to be able to wear them again the next day.
Do you want to know exactly how that works? Take a look at our explanation on airing and washing wool.
If your socks do need to be washed, use the wool cycle of your washing machine and a suitable wool detergent. We recommend Lanalicious wool detergent with lanolin. This cleans the wool gently and helps maintain its natural properties.
Wash at a low temperature, spin at the lowest possible speed, and do not use fabric softener. Wool can felt or shrink due to a combination of moisture, movement, and temperature fluctuations. Therefore, let the socks air dry gently and do not put them in the dryer.
Pure wool socks can wear out
We like to be honest about this: socks made of 100% wool may wear out faster than socks to which synthetic yarns have been added. This is part of choosing a completely natural product. In return, pure wool breathes wonderfully, regulates heat, and is extremely comfortable to wear.
How quickly socks wear out varies greatly from person to person. The fit of your shoes, your way of walking, friction, and how often you wear the same pair all play a role. Therefore, wear the socks in well-fitting shoes where your feet do not slide, and rotate different pairs regularly.
Check the toes, heels, and the ball of your foot in particular. Do you see the wool starting to thin in a certain spot? Strengthen this spot with darning wool early on. That is easier than waiting until a large hole forms and prevents the knit from unraveling further.
