Scanfil Darning Wool for wool socks WHITE 001
Darning wool for repairing wool socks and clothing, white
Yes, wool socks are absolutely the best... until holes start to appear. We cannot say it often enough: holes will develop in pure wool socks. For some people, this happens faster than for others. It is completely normal for 100% wool socks to develop holes. My boyfriend, for example, gets holes in his socks quite quickly, whereas my socks last for winters on end. There can be all sorts of causes, such as your walking style, the type of shoes you wear, or whether you wear them with or without slippers. Incidentally, it is our express advice not to wear them as slippers. This is 1. Dangerous, because wool socks are super slippery and 2. The wear-and-tear process accelerates even further.
Holes in wool socks are therefore completely normal!
Despite our advice, holes in wool socks can never be entirely prevented, as this is simply part of the nature of wool. Fortunately, holes in socks are very easy to darn.
The best approach is to start darning as soon as the wool of your socks becomes thin. If you don't, they may unravel further. For you, it is (hopefully) not too late yet :-) Don't forget to order darning wool and a darning egg! For the latter, as you have seen, you can also use an orange!
If you are looking for a long-term solution for cold feet that you can safely wear indoors, look at our Glerups. You can simply wear them without socks: warm feet guaranteed.
