Scanfil darning wool CLOUD BLUE 67 for wool socks and clothing
Wool socks are the absolute best. Until the day you suddenly find your toe waving at you through a hole. Fortunately, you definitely don't have to write off a nice pair of wool socks right away. With this Scanfil darning wool in color CLOUD BLUE 67, you can easily repair thin spots and small holes.
CLOUD BLUE is a soft, calm shade of blue that goes beautifully with light blue, blue-grey, and heathered wool socks. The color can blend in subtly with the sock, but it's also fun if you want the repair to be a little visible. After all, if you're going to the trouble of darning, the rescue mission might as well be seen.

Why do holes appear in wool socks?
Pure wool is a natural material and therefore less durable than a sock made largely of synthetic fibers. Holes appear faster for some than for others. This can be related to your walking style, the fit of your shoes, rough spots inside your shoe, or the amount of friction at your heel and toes.
Preferably do not wear regular wool socks as slippers. Without shoes or slippers, the wool rubs directly against the floor, causing the socks to wear out faster. Moreover, wool socks can be quite slippery. An unexpected slide across the living room is rarely the kind of adventure you were hoping for.
Start darning before a large hole appears
Check the heels, toes, and balls of the feet regularly. Do you see the wool getting thinner or more transparent? That is the best time to reinforce the spot with darning wool. It takes less time than repairing a large hole and prevents the stitches from unraveling further.
The darning yarn consists of 55% wool and 45% nylon. The wool blends nicely with the original material of the sock, while the nylon adds extra strength to a spot that has clearly already endured some wear and tear.
How to darn a hole in a wool sock?
- Slide a darning mushroom, darning egg, or another round object into the sock.
- Place the damaged area smoothly over the rounded shape.
- Stretch the darning yarn in straight lines over the hole, including some sturdy fabric around the damaged area.
- Then weave in the other direction, going over and under the threads.
- Tuck in the ends gently without pulling the repair tight.
Does that still sound like you need to complete a professional sock-darning course first? In our instructional video on darning wool socks, we show you exactly how it works. Don't have a darning mushroom or egg yet? For your first attempt, you can even use an orange. Not chic, but effective.
Does CLOUD BLUE match my socks?
Color 67 best matches light blue, soft blue, and blue-grey wool. With heathered socks, the color doesn't have to match exactly, as they already contain various blended shades.
Do you want to keep the repair virtually invisible? Then choose the color closest to your sock. Do you actually like visible repairs? Then combine CLOUD BLUE with dark blue, grey, white, or a striking contrast color.
Everything to repair your wool socks
Besides darning wool, you need a darning needle and preferably a darning mushroom or darning egg. View all yarn colors and handy tools in our repair accessories for wool socks and clothing.
By repairing a thin spot in time, you can often wear your favorite wool socks for much longer. That saves you from buying a new pair and prevents an otherwise perfectly fine sock from being thrown away unnecessarily. And secretly, it's also quite satisfying to look at a rescued sock afterwards. Just look at what you've fixed with your own two hands.
