Scanfil Darning Wool for wool socks
Darning wool for mending wool socks and clothing
Yes, wool socks are absolutely wonderful... until holes appear in them. We cannot say it often enough: pure wool socks will get holes. Some people get them sooner than others. It is therefore a well-known fact that 100% wool socks will get holes. It happens faster for some than for others. My boyfriend, for example, gets holes in his socks quite quickly, while my socks last for winters. It can be due to all sorts of reasons, including the way you walk, the type of shoes you wear, or whether you wear them with or without slippers. Incidentally, it is explicitly our advice not to wear them as slippers. That is 1. Dangerous, because wool socks are super slippery and 2. The wear-and-tear process is even faster.
Holes in wool socks are therefore completely normal!
Holes in wool socks, despite our advice, can never be completely prevented, because this is simply a characteristic of the wool. Fortunately, holes in socks are very easy to mend.
The best thing is to start darning as soon as the wool of the socks becomes thin. If you don't, they may unravel further. For you, it is (hopefully) not yet too late :-) Don't forget to order darning wool and a darning egg! For the latter, as you have seen, you can also use an orange!
If you are looking for a long-term solution for cold feet that you can comfortably walk around the house in, then those would be our Glerups. You can wear those without socks: warm feet guaranteed.
