Scanfil Darning Wool for wool socks
Darning wool for darning wool socks and clothing
Yes, wool socks are absolutely the best... until holes start to appear in them. We cannot say it often enough: holes will appear in pure wool socks. For some people faster than for others. So it is a foregone conclusion that 100% wool socks will get holes. For some people it happens faster than for others. My boyfriend, for example, gets holes in his socks quite quickly, while I can wear mine for winters on end. There can be all sorts of causes, even the way you walk, the type of shoes you wear, or whether you wear them with or without slippers. Incidentally, it is explicitly our advice not to wear them as slippers. That is 1. Dangerous, because wool socks are super slippery, and 2. The wear and tear process is even faster.
Holes in wool socks are therefore completely normal!
Despite our advice, holes in wool socks can never be completely prevented, because this is simply part of the properties of wool. Fortunately, holes in socks are very easy to darn.
The best thing to do is to start darning as soon as the wool of your socks has become thin. If you don't, they can fray further. For you, it is (hopefully) not too late yet :-) Don't forget to order darning wool and a darning egg! For the latter, as you have seen, you can also use an orange!
If you are looking for a longer-term solution for cold feet that you can comfortably walk around indoors with, then our Glerups are the answer. You can just wear them without socks: warm feet guaranteed.
