Scanfil Darning Wool for wool socks COBALT
Darning wool for mending wool socks and clothing blue
Yes, wool socks are the best... until holes start to appear. We cannot say it often enough: holes will develop in pure wool socks. For some faster than for others. It is therefore a foregone conclusion that 100% wool socks will get holes. For some it happens sooner than for others. My partner, for example, gets holes in his socks quite quickly, while I wear my socks for entire winters. There can be all kinds of causes, even the way you walk, the type of shoes, or whether you wear them with or without slippers. By the way, it is explicitly our advice not to wear them as slippers. That is 1. Dangerous, because wool socks are very slippery and 2. The wear-and-tear process happens even faster.
Holes in wool socks are therefore completely normal!
Holes in wool socks are therefore, despite our advice, never entirely preventable, because this is simply part of the properties of wool. Fortunately, holes in socks are very easy to darn.
The best thing to do is to start darning as soon as the wool of your socks becomes thin. If you don't, they can fray further. For you, it is (hopefully) not yet too late :-) Don't forget to order darning wool and a darning egg as well! For the latter, as you have seen, you can also use an orange!
If you are looking for a longer-term solution for cold feet that you can safely wear indoors, those would be our Glerups. You can wear those without socks: warm feet guaranteed.
