Glerups

Once you slip your feet into a pair of Glerups, you understand why people are so enthusiastic about them. These Danish wool slippers and house shoes are made from natural wool felt: wonderfully warm, breathable, and so comfortable that 'putting on slippers' at our home usually means they don't come off for the rest of the day.

At Natur-el, we have been selling Glerups since 2017, and we now have one of the largest collections of Glerups in Rotterdam and the surrounding area. For both women and men, in various colors and styles, and with a leather or rubber sole. We also carry the rubber versions with both Honey and Black soles. Because if we are enthusiastic about something, apparently we aren't very good at keeping a small selection ;-).

Are you looking for Glerups wool slippers for cold feet, are you debating between leather and rubber, or are you unsure about which size you need? We explain everything below. Do you just want to pick out a pair quickly? Then feel free to scroll through our collection.

Why are Glerups wool slippers so popular?

The secret lies largely in the material. Glerups are made from wool that is formed into sturdy wool felt. This creates a slipper that is warm, but doesn't feel like a thick, synthetic slipper that makes your feet start to sweat after half an hour.

Wool is naturally insulating, breathable, and capable of absorbing moisture. That makes Glerups very nice for people who have cold feet easily, but also for people who don't want clammy feet in their slippers.

  • Made of natural wool felt
  • Warm and breathable at the same time
  • Can be worn barefoot or with socks
  • Styles for women and men
  • Choice of low and high-cut Glerups
  • Available with leather or rubber soles
  • Rubber soles available in Honey and Black
  • Many different colors
  • At Natur-el, generally available in sizes 37 to 45

Glerups wool slippers: warm without sweaty feet

When people hear 'wool slippers,' some primarily think of being 'very hot.' That is only half true. Wool insulates well, but can also breathe and absorb moisture. It therefore helps to maintain a comfortable climate around your feet.

That is exactly why many people find Glerups so pleasant. You get the warmth you expect from a good wool slipper, without completely sealing off your feet with synthetic materials.

And yes: you can definitely wear Glerups barefoot. In fact, we think that might be the best way. Do you always have cold feet? Then, of course, you can just wear a pair of wool socks with them.

What types of Glerups are available?

One of the reasons why our Glerups collection has grown quite large is that not everyone prefers the same type of slipper. That is why we have different styles and soles.

Glerups bootie: extra warm around your ankles

The high-cut Glerups bootie extends up to the ankle. As a result, not only your foot but also your ankle stays nice and warm. This is a wonderful style if you get cold feet easily, walk on a cold floor, or just want maximum warmth.

Low-cut Glerups slippers

Do you want the comfort and warmth of wool, but prefer a lower-cut style? Then there are low-cut Glerups. They are easy to slip on and off and provide a bit more freedom around your ankle.

Glerups with leather or rubber soles: what is the difference?

This is probably one of the questions we get asked the most. The good news: there is no wrong choice. It mainly depends on where you want to wear your Glerups.

Glerups with leather sole

The leather sole is supple, light, and very nice when you use your Glerups strictly as house slippers. You feel more contact with the floor, and the slipper moves easily with your foot.

However, leather does not like damp or rough surfaces. Do you want to step outside occasionally? Then we would choose rubber.

Glerups with rubber sole

A rubber sole provides more grip and handles damp surfaces better. Popping into the garden, going to the shed, grabbing the mail, or taking the trash out is much more practical with these.

Moreover, the Glerups rubber sole is non-marking and therefore does not leave streaks on your floor.

At Natur-el, you will find the rubber version in Honey and Black. Functionally, they are similar; the difference is mainly in the appearance. Honey is light and natural, while Black is a bit darker and tougher.

Can you walk outside with Glerups?

With a rubber sole, you can easily go outside for a short while. The sole can handle a damp surface and offers more grip than the leather version.

But Glerups remain house shoes first and foremost. Even the models with rubber soles are not intended as regular walking shoes. A quick trip to the mailbox: fine. A five-kilometer walk through the rain: we would really put on different shoes for that.

Which Glerups size should I choose?

Glerups sizes correspond fairly well to regular European shoe sizes. Even so, it is important not to buy Glerups unnecessarily too large. The wool felt will conform more to your foot as you wear it and can therefore become slightly roomier.

Glerups themselves advise rounding up for half sizes. Our experience after fitting many customers in the shop is a bit more nuanced: a Glerups should above all not be too loose. When your foot constantly slides in a slipper that is too large, it creates extra friction, which can lead to faster wear.

Are you between two sizes? Then definitely look at your measured foot length. If you have wide feet, some extra room can of course be pleasant.

Glerups size chart

Measure your foot while standing, from the back of your heel to the tip of your longest toe. Then compare your foot length with the Glerups size chart below.

Which Glerups sizes does Natur-el carry?

We normally have our Glerups in stock from size 37 to 45. Other sizes can potentially be ordered especially for you.

Please note: a size outside our regular stock that is ordered specifically for you cannot be exchanged. Are you in doubt about your size? Then please contact us in advance or come and try them on in our shop in Rotterdam. We are happy to help you find the right size.

Are Glerups for women or men?

Glerups are unisex. You therefore do not need to look for completely different wool slippers for women or men. Simply choose the style, color, sole, and size that suit you.

At Natur-el, we therefore have one comprehensive collection in which both women and men can find their Glerups. From natural Sand and dark Charcoal to various blues and other colors.

The story behind Glerups

Glerups didn't start at the drafting table of a large shoe company, but on a farm in Denmark. Nanny Glerup began making felt slippers from wool in 1993. What started with slippers for family and friends eventually grew into the Danish brand that is now known worldwide for its wool slippers.

And we understand why. Because ultimately, the idea remains wonderfully simple: use the natural properties of wool to make a comfortable, warm, and functional house shoe.

We discovered Glerups ourselves in 2017. A colleague brought in a pair and said: "Vera, you have to try these." Well, why not? I was sold. Now, years later, Glerups have secured a permanent place in our collection.

How do you maintain Glerups?

The great thing about wool is that you usually have to do surprisingly little. Regular airing is often sufficient for normal use. Wool definitely does not need to be washed after every few wears.

With new Glerups, some loose wool fibers or fuzz can appear at the beginning. That is part of natural wool felt and will decrease on its own during wear.

Have your Glerups become truly dirty? Then follow the care instructions for your specific version and keep the sole material in mind. Above all, don't just toss them in with your regular laundry without thinking.

Why buy Glerups at Natur-el?

Quite simply: because we have quite a lot of Glerups. And because we haven't just been selling them since last week because they happen to be popular.

We have been fans of Glerups ourselves since 2017 and have built up a substantial collection over the years. As a result, you can view different sizes, colors, styles, and soles side by side with us.

Online you will find our extensive collection, and in our shop you can actually try on different Glerups. We think the latter is especially nice if you are unsure between two sizes or don't yet know if you want a leather or rubber sole.

Frequently asked questions about Glerups

What are Glerups?

Glerups are Danish wool slippers and house shoes made from felted wool. They are available in different styles and with a leather or rubber sole.

Are Glerups warm?

Yes. Wool is naturally insulating and helps to retain warmth around your feet. At the same time, wool is breathable and can absorb moisture, making your feet feel less sweaty.

Are Glerups suitable for cold feet?

Yes. The high-cut Glerups bootie is especially nice when you have cold feet easily, because the wool felt also surrounds your ankles.

Are Glerups suitable for sweaty feet?

Wool is breathable and can absorb moisture. Consequently, many people find wool slippers more pleasant for warm or damp feet than fully synthetic slippers.

Can you wear Glerups barefoot?

Yes. The properties of wool make Glerups very suitable for wearing directly on bare feet. Socks are also an option, of course.

What is better: Glerups with a leather or rubber sole?

A leather sole is flexible and especially nice for indoors. A rubber sole provides more grip and can handle damp surfaces better. Which one is best therefore mainly depends on how you use your Glerups.

Can you go outside with Glerups?

With a rubber sole, you can walk short distances outside. However, Glerups remain house shoes and are not intended as regular walking or outdoor shoes.

How do Glerups fit?

Glerups correspond fairly well to regular European shoe sizes. The wool felt conforms to your foot during wear and can become slightly roomier. Therefore, do not buy them unnecessarily large and, in case of doubt, use your measured foot length and the size chart.
