Thin or thick solid wool socks?
For dress shoes, work shoes, or daily use, thin solid wool socks are often the most comfortable. They provide the temperature-regulating properties of wool without much extra bulk. If you have roomier shoes or are mainly looking for extra warmth, choose from our thick solid wool socks.
Make sure your shoe doesn't become too tight due to a thicker sock. Pressure and friction are not only uncomfortable but can also shorten the lifespan of your socks.
Fit and sizing advice
The fit differs per brand and model. Hirsch Natur generally runs large; if you are between two sizes, usually choose the smaller size. A sock that fits well is less likely to bunch up or slide. You will find additional sizing advice with every product, and of course, you can always ask us for help.
Wool socks need to be washed less often
Wool is much less prone to absorbing odors. Hang your socks out to air overnight after wearing them, and they are often ready to wear again the next day. Do they need a wash after all? Choose the wool cycle, a low temperature, and a low spin speed. Use a suitable wool detergent, such as Lanalicious with lanolin, and no fabric softener. Let the socks air dry.
Wear and repair
Socks with a lot or only wool can be more susceptible to wear than socks with a lot of synthetic fibers. Wear them in well-fitting shoes or slippers and not directly on the floor. Do you see a thin spot at the toe, heel, or ball of the foot? Then reinforce it in time.
