Hirsch Natur thin plain wool socks black
Sometimes you just want black socks. No snowflakes, rainbow stripes, or color combinations that you have to form an opinion about in the morning. Just a good, plain sock that goes with almost every pair of pants and shoes.
These black Hirsch Natur socks from the 151 series are made of 100% organic wool. They are thinner than the thick Norwegian models, but slightly fuller than a very fine cotton or wool dress sock. This combines natural warmth with a thickness that fits into many standard shoes.

The wool sock for people who don't want a pattern
The sock is completely black and features a quiet, fine-knit foot. The shaft has a subtle ribbed structure that gives the solid color a bit more depth. This makes the sock look neat without immediately drawing attention.
Black combines with jeans, dress pants, work clothes, and almost any color shoe. Even when a bit of the sock becomes visible between your pant leg and shoe, the overall look remains calm.
Wool is a natural product. As a result, the structure may differ very slightly per pair or shipment. Also, black may look slightly softer in bright daylight than a pitch-black synthetic sock.
How thick is Hirsch Natur model 151?
Hirsch Natur calls this a thin sock, but the knit is not as paper-thin as a classic men's dress sock. In terms of thickness, the 151 sits between a very thin daily sock and the sturdy Norwegian models.
The socks fit in many sneakers, low shoes, ankle boots, and regular work shoes. In very tight-fitting dress shoes, the knit may still feel somewhat fuller than a thin cotton or synthetic sock.
Are you looking for maximum warmth for spacious winter boots? Then the thick plain 191 series or a Norwegian 030 model is probably more suitable. Our wool sock selection guide helps you compare the different thicknesses.
Black wool socks for daily use
This version is a fine base for those who enjoy wearing wool daily but don't want an eye-catching pattern under their pants every day. You can wear them to work, during a casual walk, at home in slippers, or under a dressier outfit.
These are not technical hiking or sports socks. They have no extra cushioning, compression zones, or synthetically reinforced parts. For long hikes or very intensive use, a specially developed model may be more comfortable and durable.
What makes 100% wool pleasant for your feet?
Wool insulates and simultaneously helps regulate moisture and temperature around your feet. The fibers can absorb moisture without immediately feeling wet or clammy. This makes wool socks suitable for different seasons.
The socks naturally stay fresh longer than many synthetic alternatives. Therefore, they usually don't need to be washed after every wear. Airing them out and giving them a rest is often sufficient.
Are you sensitive to wool? Keep in mind that this is pure wool. How soft or itchy the material feels varies by person and cannot be guaranteed for every skin type in advance.
Hirsch sizing advice: choose smaller if in doubt
Hirsch Natur socks generally run large. Are you between two combined sizes? Choose the smaller size. For example, if you wear a size 41 or 42, we usually recommend size 40/41.
The shaped heel should sit roughly on your own heel. If it sits above your foot or there is a lot of material left over at the toes, the sock is likely too large.
A sock that is too loose can slip or wrinkle in your shoe. That is less comfortable and causes extra friction. The socks may also become slightly looser while being worn, so don't automatically size up.
A wool cuff with minimal support
A few very fine elastic threads are incorporated into the top part of the cuff. These are embedded in the wool knit and do not come into direct contact with the skin. They help the sock stay in place along your leg.
The foot section consists of 100% wool and contains no nylon, polyester, or elastane. Consequently, the sock fits less tightly around your foot than a synthetic sports or compression sock.
Real customer experiences
Customer experience: one customer says the socks are comfortable for her and that she enjoys walking in them.
Customer experience: another customer is very happy with the socks, finds them comfortable, and indicates that the chosen size is good for her. She mainly had to get used to the idea that wool socks do not need to be washed after every wear.
These are personal experiences. How a sock fits, walks, or feels differs per person and depends on your foot shape, shoe, and chosen size.
Pure wool is not the same as wear-resistant wool
These socks contain no synthetic reinforcement at the heel, toes, or sole. This ensures a natural feel, but also means that thin spots or holes can develop due to pressure and friction.
How quickly this happens varies greatly. Your shoes, insoles, foot shape, calluses, nails, and walking style all play a role. A damaged insole or a shoe that is too loose can wear out even a good wool sock quickly.
Check the heel, ball of the foot, and toes regularly. Do not use the socks as slippers on hard floors and wear them in well-fitting shoes or slippers. Normal wear and tear is not a manufacturing defect and is not covered under warranty.
Darning black or using a visible color
Do you see a thin spot developing? Repair it before there is a large hole. With black darning wool, the repair remains virtually invisible. Of course, you can also choose a contrasting color and turn the repair into a small detail.
In our blog Help, I have a hole in my wool sock, you can read how to delay wear and repair a sock. Darning wool and other tools can be found among our repair accessories for wool socks.
Leave the washing machine alone
Let the socks air out well after wearing and preferably give them a day of rest. This allows the wool fibers to release moisture and regain their shape. Often the socks are fresh enough to wear again afterward.
Do they need to be washed? Then follow the wash label and use a true wool wash program at a maximum of 30 degrees, with a low spin speed. A regular wash program causes too much movement and temperature fluctuations.
Use a small amount of suitable wool detergent with lanolin, such as Lanalicious. Do not use fabric softener, do not wring the socks out, and never put them in the dryer. Gently shape them after washing and let them air dry lying flat.
