LANGERCHEN RISANA BURGUNDY women's wool coat

The LANGERCHEN RISANA BURGUNDY is an elegant wool city parka in a warm, deep shade between brown and wine red. It is a distinctive color, yet one that is surprisingly easy to combine with denim, black, dark blue, and all sorts of natural tones.

Underneath the soft wool exterior lies a technical PU membrane that makes the coat windproof, breathable, and water-repellent. You get all the practical features of a good outdoor coat, but without the shiny synthetic material, fifteen visible zippers, and the look of someone about to address a hiking group.

Wool with a technical interior

The outer layer of the RISANA is made of organic wool. Wool retains heat, breathes, and can absorb moisture without feeling clammy quickly. On the inside, there is a soft lining of organic cotton jersey.

In between is a very thin polyurethane membrane. This layer blocks cold wind, helps keep rain out, and gives the wool fabric extra sturdiness without compromising its suppleness. As a result, the coat holds its shape better even with frequent wear and cycling.

The fabric has a water column of 8,000 mm, but the seams are not taped. The RISANA can handle a regular rain shower just fine, but it is not a fully waterproof raincoat. During a prolonged downpour, moisture can eventually seep in through the stitching.

A long coat you can cycle in

The YKK zipper can be opened from both the top and the bottom. When cycling, you can unzip the bottom part of the coat, giving your legs plenty of freedom of movement while keeping your upper body comfortably sheltered.

The high collar transitions into a hood, protecting your neck and head from wind and light rain. The hidden snap buttons keep the front looking clean, and the side pockets are neatly integrated into the seams.

Fit and personal size advice

RISANA has a feminine, fairly fitted silhouette. I am wearing size L in the photo and normally wear a size 40/42. The coat fits me nicely, but it is quite snug. I have slightly wider hips, and that is where you notice that this model is not overly loose.

My advice for all RISANA models is therefore: generally, choose your usual size. If you have wider hips, want to wear a thick sweater underneath, or are between two sizes? Then it is better to choose a size up. After all, a winter coat shouldn't just look good while posing perfectly upright, but should also be able to close when you are cycling, sitting, and moving.

How to care for your RISANA

Wash the coat as little as possible and let it air out regularly. You can gently remove dry dirt with a soft clothing brush, and treat small stains locally with a slightly damp cloth.

Has the coat gotten wet? Hang it on a wide hanger and let it dry slowly at room temperature. For a full cleaning, always follow the wash label and do not use fabric softener or aggressive stain removers; these can damage the wool, the membrane, and the water-repellent finish.
