LUNA is double-knit from 100% baby alpaca. This makes this reversible version thicker and warmer than a single-knit alpaca beanie, yet still surprisingly light. Ideal for cold autumn and winter days when you want to keep your ears warm, but don't want your head feeling wrapped up like a roast.

Two beanies for the price of one
Well, technically you are getting one beanie, of course. But because both sides are fully finished, you can truly wear it in two ways.
On one side, you see the recognizable, colorful LUNA pattern with warm shades of red, dusty pink, green, natural, and blue. If you turn the beanie inside out, a calm heathered green tone appears. Depending on how you wear the fold, you can even show a subtle edge of the colorful knit.
The colorful side is perfect for when your winter coat could use some extra cheer. The green side goes with almost everything and is nice on days when your outfit already has enough going on. And if you change your mind while you're out, you just turn it inside out. Fashion dilemma solved.
Double-knit for extra warmth
This reversible beanie has no separate lining. Both layers consist of 100% baby alpaca and together form the two wearable sides of the beanie. Thanks to this double-layered construction, LUNA retains extra warmth.
The beanie fits smoothly around the head and protects your ears and forehead from the cold. Despite the double layer, the knit remains light and breathable. Alpaca helps to retain warmth while simultaneously wicking away excess heat and moisture. This keeps your climate comfortable when you're taking a brisk walk or moving from the outdoors to the indoors.
What makes baby alpaca so special?
Baby alpaca belongs to the finest and softest alpaca fibers. The name refers to the fineness of the fiber and does not automatically mean that the wool comes exclusively from young alpacas.
The smooth fibers feel soft and naturally contain no lanolin. Many people who find regular wool itchy therefore find baby alpaca pleasant. Every skin reacts differently, of course, so we cannot promise that absolutely no one will feel anything. But this is a very different experience from those old-fashioned itchy beanies that you spend all day tugging at.

The APU KUNTUR reversible beanie LUNA is available in sizes M and L. The double-knit material is flexible and conforms nicely to the head without quickly losing its shape. The model in the product photo is 175 cm tall and wears size M.

The reversible LUNA beanie is Fair Trade made in Cusco, Peru. There is a long tradition in this region of working with alpaca wool and colorful knitting patterns. You can see that craftsmanship in the beautiful transitions, the even structure, and the finishing of both wearable sides.
APU KUNTUR produces with respect for the makers, the material, and local traditions. The result is not a fast fashion accessory, but a warm beanie that you can wear for years and style in two different ways.
Please note: the APU KUNTUR logo is made of leather. Therefore, the beanie contains a small non-textile part of animal origin.
Combine LUNA with other alpaca accessories

Wear the green side with a colorful scarf or pair the patterned side with a calm, solid-colored alpaca accessory. Mixing and matching is encouraged. In fact, it only makes these colors more fun.
How do you care for a reversible alpaca beanie?
You almost never have to wash alpaca. Letting it air out outside or hanging it in the bathroom is usually enough. The fibers barely absorb odors and therefore easily refresh themselves.
Does the beanie need to be washed? Use cold water or a maximum of 30 degrees and a small amount of special detergent for alpaca, such as Washpaca. Wash gently by hand or use a wool wash program only if the wash label allows it.
Do not wring, do not tumble dry, and do not hang up while wet. Gently press the water out of the beanie, reshape both layers, and let it dry lying flat.

Yes. Both sides are fully finished and intended to be worn on the outside. You choose between a colorful Andean pattern and a calm, heathered green side.
Does this beanie have a cotton lining?
No. Unlike the lined LUNA beanie, this reversible version consists entirely of two layers of baby alpaca. The second layer is therefore not a separate lining, but the other wearable side of the beanie.
Is this a warm winter beanie?
Yes. Thanks to the double-knit design, this is one of the warmer alpaca beanies in our collection. At the same time, baby alpaca remains light and breathable.
Is the beanie itchy?
Baby alpaca is particularly fine and soft and is experienced as pleasant by many people, even those who find regular wool itchy. Because every skin reacts differently, we can never guarantee this for everyone.
