LANGERCHEN women's wool trench coat MILPORT
A long wool winter coat that looks elegant, is comfortable for cycling, and offers protection against wind and rain? It almost sounds like we are trying to sell you a technical outdoor jacket. The kind of coat with endless little pockets, zippers, and material that is functionally amazing, but looks like you are about to lead an organized hiking trip at any moment.
Fortunately, the LANGERCHEN MILPORT is something completely different. This long women's coat combines the calm appearance of a wool trench coat with a smart technical membrane. On the outside, you see organic wool; on the inside, you feel soft organic cotton jersey; and in between is a thin layer of polyurethane that blocks wind and provides protection against rain.
MILPORT features a long, minimalist silhouette, an adjustable hood, a high-closing collar, and a two-way zipper. We have this beloved wool coat in multiple colors: NAVY, STEEL BLUE, PLATINUM, BURGUNDY, NIGHT, PURPLE, and OLIVE.

A technical coat that doesn't look technical
If we were to list only the features of MILPORT, you might expect the coat to be made of shiny synthetic material. Windproof, breathable, water-repellent, ventilation eyelets, a two-way zipper, and handy pockets: the complete technical list is present.
Yet, MILPORT looks like an elegant wool coat. The subtle seams, concealed closure, and open-cut edges give the model a minimalist appearance. No overdose of visible zippers, contrasting sports details, or pockets that you still don't know the purpose of after three winters. Just a beautiful coat that secretly does quite a lot.
Three layers, each with its own function
The fabric of MILPORT consists of three different layers:
-
Outer layer: organic wool for warmth and a natural, luxurious look
-
Middle layer: a thin membrane of polyurethane that blocks wind and provides protection against rain
-
Inner layer: 100% organic cotton jersey for a soft and comfortable feel
The layers are bonded together into one flexible fabric. This makes the coat feel sturdy and helps it retain its shape beautifully without becoming stiff. That is especially pleasant for a long coat that you wear often or frequently use on your bike.
Why wool is so suitable for a winter coat
Wool retains heat, but can simultaneously absorb and release moisture. As a result, the material helps regulate your body temperature and feels less clammy than many synthetic fabrics.
In addition, wool is naturally somewhat water-repellent. This is due, among other things, to the structure of the fiber and the natural wool fats, which we also call lanolin. Raindrops do not immediately soak deep into the fabric because of this.
Processed wool does not always contain the same amount of lanolin as untreated wool. With MILPORT, the protection against wet weather therefore comes not only from the wool, but also from the water-repellent finish and the membrane in the fabric.
What does the membrane do?
Between the wool exterior and the cotton interior lies a very thin layer of polyurethane. You don't see it and you barely feel it, but it is the secret superpower of this coat.
The membrane blocks cold wind and helps prevent rain from seeping through the fabric. At the same time, heat and perspiration can be wicked away. This makes MILPORT feel more comfortable and less stuffy than many completely sealed synthetic raincoats.
The membrane also gives the wool fabric extra stability. A long wool coat can start to sag or deform locally after intensive use. Think of the imprint of your bicycle saddle that remains visible in the back of your coat after you arrive. The technical middle layer helps MILPORT maintain its shape better, without taking away the natural suppleness of the coat.
Water-repellent, but not a raincoat
MILPORT can handle an average rain shower just fine. The wool, water-repellent finish, and the membrane work together to keep wind and rain out. Nevertheless, we deliberately do not call the coat completely waterproof.
This is because the seams are not taped. During prolonged or very heavy rain, moisture can eventually seep through the stitching. For daily commuting, a winter city walk, or an unexpected shower, MILPORT is very suitable. For hours of walking in a downpour, we would still take a real raincoat.
Has the coat gotten wet? Then hang it on a wide, sturdy hanger and let it dry slowly at room temperature. You can hang the coat inside out for a while so that the interior can also air out properly. Never place it on or against a heater. Wool and direct heat are not friends.
Why does LangerChen use polyurethane?
Polyurethane, or PU, is a synthetic material. We are not trying to make that sound better than it is. The material is not biodegradable and naturally has an environmental impact.
LangerChen uses PU very specifically as a thin functional layer. It ensures the coat is windproof, breathable, and water-repellent without using a membrane with harmful fluorine compounds. The water-repellent finish is also PFC-free.
The sustainable value of MILPORT therefore does not lie in the claim that every component is completely natural or impact-free. It lies in the combination of organic materials, a targeted amount of technical material, and a strong, timeless construction intended to last for years. One good coat that you wear season after season is ultimately a much wiser purchase than three disposable coats that are worn out after a couple of winters.
Long coat, yet comfortable on the bike
A long winter coat is wonderfully warm, until you get on your bike and discover that your knees have nowhere to go. That is why MILPORT has a two-way YKK zipper. You can open the coat not only from top to bottom, but also from the bottom up.
By opening the zipper a bit from the bottom while cycling, your legs get more room to move while your upper body remains protected. This way, you don't have to choose between a long, warm coat and being able to pedal properly. A rather important feature in Rotterdam.
Hood and high-closing collar
The fixed hood can be adjusted with the drawstrings and helps protect your head and neck against wind and light rain. When you close the zipper all the way, the collar sits high around your neck. That saves you from having to look for a scarf when you are already five minutes late leaving the house.
If you aren't wearing the hood, it rests quietly against the back of the coat. The hood fits in nicely with the minimalist design and does not make MILPORT look like an overly sporty parka.
Smart pockets and calm details
The slip pockets are integrated into the dividing seams. This makes them easily accessible while keeping them visually unobtrusive. On the inside, there is also a lockable zippered pocket for items you would rather not launch onto the street while cycling.
The main zipper sits behind a flap with hidden snap buttons. This flap helps keep wind and rain out and simultaneously provides a sleek front. Under the arms are small ventilation eyelets so that excess heat can escape more easily.
The LangerChen logo is featured on the left arm in a tone-on-tone design. Present, but not so large that the entire tram immediately knows which brand of coat you are wearing. We often find modesty much chicer.
Seven MILPORT colors
We have MILPORT in different colors. The model and technical features are the same; only the color differs.
-
NAVY: classic dark blue and particularly easy to combine
-
STEEL BLUE: a mélange blue-gray shade with a calm, cool look
-
PLATINUM: a light to medium-dark mélange gray shade
-
BURGUNDY: a warm, deep color between wine red and brown
-
NIGHT: very dark blue that can look almost black depending on the light
-
PURPLE: a rich color for those who like to wear something other than blue, gray, or black
-
OLIVE: a subtle olive-green shade that combines beautifully with natural colors
Which color suits you best depends primarily on what is already in your wardrobe. Or on which color makes you immediately happy as soon as you put it on. Honestly, that is at least as important.
Made by LangerChen
LangerChen develops the materials specifically for its own collection and makes the coats in its own factory. This allows the brand to properly control the trajectory from design and fabric development to production and finishing.
The brand chooses functional outerwear made of organic and carefully selected materials, produced under socially responsible conditions. No mass production just to fill racks, but timeless coats that are actually meant to be worn. To work, on the bike, during a walk, and during all those days when the weather can't decide what it wants.
Fit and sizing advice
MILPORT has a long, feminine, but not overly tailored shape. The dividing seams give the coat a nice line, while there is enough room to move for daily use.
When choosing your size, keep in mind what you want to wear under the coat in winter. If you usually wear it over a shirt, blouse, or thin sweater, you need less extra room than if you need to fit a thick wool sweater underneath as a standard.
Are you in doubt between two sizes or do you want to know how much room there is around the chest, hips, and upper arms? Please contact us or come and try on the MILPORT in Rotterdam. Then we can immediately see which size fits well and provides enough room to move naturally.
Is MILPORT a real winter coat?
The wool outer layer retains heat, and the membrane prevents cold wind from easily passing through the fabric. Due to the long length, your hips and a large part of your legs are also protected. This makes MILPORT very suitable for autumn and for mild to normal Dutch winter days.
The coat does not have a thick quilted lining. How warm it is for you therefore depends on the weather, what you wear underneath, and how quickly you get cold. If you are someone who is always cold or if you stand still for long periods during severe frost, wear a warm wool sweater or cardigan underneath.
How to care for your wool MILPORT coat
Wash the coat as little as possible. Wool is less prone to odors and often improves significantly after a few hours of airing out. Brush away dust and dry dirt gently with a soft clothing brush.
A small stain can be treated locally with a clean, slightly damp cloth. Dab gently and do not rub hard, as this can damage or felt the surface of the wool.
Does the coat need to be cleaned thoroughly? Always check the wash label first and follow it carefully. Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or aggressive stain removers. These can affect the wool, the PU membrane, and the water-repellent finish.
When in doubt, we recommend a professional cleaner experienced with wool coats with a technical membrane. Clearly explain that MILPORT consists of multiple layers and has a PFC-free water-repellent finish.
Frequently asked questions about MILPORT
Is the LangerChen MILPORT completely waterproof?
No. The fabric is windproof and water-repellent and can handle a normal rain shower well. Because the seams are not taped, moisture can eventually penetrate during prolonged or heavy rain.
Why is there a PU membrane in the coat?
The thin membrane blocks wind, provides protection against rain, and helps the wool fabric maintain its shape. At the same time, body heat and perspiration can be wicked away.
Is the inside synthetic?
No. The visible and tangible inner layer is made of soft organic cotton jersey. Only between the wool exterior and the cotton interior is the thin technical PU membrane.
Can I cycle in the MILPORT?
Yes. The two-way zipper can be opened from the bottom, giving your legs more room to move. The technical middle layer also helps prevent the wool from quickly losing its shape due to frequent cycling.
Does MILPORT have a hood?
Yes. The coat has a fixed hood with adjustable drawstrings and a high-closing front that also helps protect the neck and throat.
In which colors is MILPORT available?
We have MILPORT in NAVY, STEEL BLUE, PLATINUM, BURGUNDY, NIGHT, PURPLE, and OLIVE.
