Hirsch Natur Norwegian wool knee-high socks black/grey
Warm feet are nice. Warm feet and warm lower legs are even nicer on cold days. These Norwegian knee-high socks from Hirsch Natur come to just below the knee, making them particularly pleasant in high shoes, boots, and winter boots.
The combination of black, anthracite, and grey makes the sock understated and easy to combine. Around the foot, the knit is subtly mottled; from the ankle, the classic Norwegian pattern with stars and geometric shapes appears. Pleasantly wintry, without you having to go through life looking like a walking Christmas sweater.

When should you choose a knee-high sock instead of a regular wool sock?
A regular wool sock warms mainly your feet and ankles. A knee-high sock extends further over the lower leg. You notice this difference especially when you are outside, working on a cold floor, or wearing boots into which a shorter sock might slide down.

Are you unsure which thickness, height, or style best suits your shoes and usage? In our wool sock buying guide, we compare the various models.
Wrapped from foot to knee in organic wool
These Hirsch Natur knee-high socks consist of 100% organic wool from controlled organic livestock, also indicated as kbT. No synthetic fiber has been knitted through the foot. You therefore feel and wear pure wool.
Wool insulates, but at the same time can absorb and release moisture. This helps the material regulate the temperature around your feet and legs. That makes these knee-high socks not only suitable for a winter walk but also for a workday in a cold building, a cool bedroom, or a long evening on the couch.
A few fine elastic threads are incorporated into the top cuff to help keep the high sock in place. Nevertheless, the knee-high sock is not a medical support or compression stocking.
How does model 430 from Hirsch Natur fit?
Hirsch Natur fits quite roomy for this model. Are you between two sizes or unsure which size you need? Usually, choose the smaller size. Socks that are too big can bunch up or shift inside your shoes while walking. That is less comfortable and causes extra friction.
With knee-high socks, it's not just your shoe size that plays a role. The length and circumference of your lower legs also determine how high the sock reaches and how the cuff feels. For one person, it ends nicely just below the knee, while it may come out slightly lower for someone with long legs. Do you have sturdy calves or are you sensitive to cuffs? It is best to try the sock on first, as there is no separate calf size.
Put a long wool sock on gently. Gather the shaft down to the heel, slide your foot into place first, and then roll the knit up your calf evenly. Pulling hard on just the cuff can put unnecessary strain on the knit.
Suitable for boots and hiking boots?
The high shaft makes these knee-high socks very pleasant in boots. They form a warm layer between your lower leg and the shaft of the boot and can help prevent a short sock from sliding down.
The model can also be comfortable in roomy walking and outdoor shoes. One customer, for example, tells us that she wears her pair in hiking boots almost daily and especially appreciates that the socks are warm and stay up well for her. That is a personal customer experience; the fit and wearing comfort can vary per foot, calf, and shoe.
This Norwegian knee-high sock has no special reinforced hiking zones or technical cushioning. For long or intensive hikes, you can therefore also take a look at our wool hiking socks.
What do customers say about these knee-high socks?
In their feedback, customers especially mention the warmth, the fit, and the fact that the knee-high socks stay in place well for them. Another wearer describes the knit as soft and not constricting anywhere for her. Because calves and personal preferences differ, these experiences cannot guarantee that the cuff feels the same for everyone.
Customers are also remarkably honest about wear and tear. One customer writes, for example, that her knee-high socks do wear out, but are easy to darn. This fits perfectly with what we consider important: wool does not have to be indestructible to be used for a long time, as long as you discover and repair a thin spot in time.
Pure wool also means being honest about wear
Because there is no polyamide or other synthetic reinforcement in the foot, these knee-high socks remain completely wool. The downside is that pure wool socks can wear out faster than socks with a synthetic reinforcement thread.
How long a pair lasts varies greatly by person. The fit, shoes, way of walking, toenails, and amount of use all have an influence. Friction occurs mainly at the heel, ball of the foot, and toes. An insole with a rough spot or damaged lining can also shorten the lifespan.
Normal wear and tear from use is not a manufacturing defect and is not covered by the warranty. Therefore, check your socks occasionally. Do you see the knit getting thinner? Repair it before a large hole forms. In our article on repairing wool socks, we explain how to approach this. You can find suitable wool and tools in our repair accessories.
Watch out on slippery floors
These wool knee-high socks have no anti-slip sole. Pure wool can be quite slippery on smooth floors such as wood, laminate, and tile. Therefore, use them indoors with caution or wear slippers over them.
Washing is usually not necessary
Wool needs to be washed much less often than cotton or synthetic materials. Let the knee-high socks air out well after wearing and alternate between different pairs. This gives the wool fibers time to spring back and helps to naturally reduce odors.
Do they need to be washed anyway? Wash them on a suitable wool program at a maximum of 30 degrees, with little agitation and a low spin cycle. Use a real wool detergent, such as Lanalicious. Regular detergent can contain enzymes that attack the wool fiber.
Do not use fabric softener and do not put the knee-high socks in the dryer. After washing, lay them flat to dry in shape, away from a hot heater. This prevents shrinking, felting, and unnecessary stress on the long shaft.
