All about this product

Hirsch Natur wool Nordic knee-high socks in petrol and blue

Warm feet and warm lower legs: these long wool knee-high socks from Hirsch Natur reach just below the knee and are made from 100% organic wool from controlled organic livestock farming (KbT). The petrol-blue star pattern gives them that cozy Nordic look that spontaneously makes you crave boots, a thick sweater, and winter weather.

The knee-high socks are densely and warmly knitted, yet benefit from the breathable and moisture-regulating properties of pure wool. This makes them wonderful in roomy boots and work shoes, but also nice for at home, on the couch, or in bed.

  • Made from 100% organic virgin wool (KbT)
  • Warm Nordic star pattern in petrol and blue
  • Long model that reaches just below the knee
  • Densely and comfortably knitted
  • Breathable and moisture-regulating
  • Produced by Hirsch Natur in Germany
  • No synthetic fibers in the part that lies against the skin
  • Available in various combined shoe sizes

Fine knee-high socks for inside boots

Due to their length, these wool socks are particularly pleasant in tall boots. The shaft protects your lower leg against the edge of the boot and provides extra warmth on cold days. Do keep in mind that this is a sturdily knitted sock. Your shoe or boot must provide sufficient space so that your toes are not compressed.

A thicker sock is not automatically warmer if it makes your shoe too tight. There must remain sufficient space around your foot for an insulating layer of air. Are you unsure which thickness best fits your shoes and usage? Then check out our complete wool sock selection guide.

Do these wool knee-high socks stay up well?

At the very top of the cuff, a few rows of very small elastic threads have been knitted in. These are incorporated into the knit and do not touch the skin, but they do help to keep the knee-high sock in place. The cuff should end below the knee and should not cut into the back of your knee.

You can fold over the long top if desired. One customer mentioned that she sometimes wears the top as a kind of leg warmer. How exactly the knee-high sock fits depends, of course, on the length and shape of your lower leg.

Important sizing advice for Hirsch Natur

Hirsch Natur socks run large. Our experience in the shop is therefore that it is usually better to choose one size smaller than your normal shoe size. If you, for example, wear shoe size 40 or 41, look at size 38/39 first.

The heel of the sock should sit neatly around your own heel. Is there a lot of excess fabric at the toes or is the heel sliding upward? Then the sock is too big. A sock that is too roomy can wrinkle and slide, which causes extra friction and faster wear. A sock that is too small, however, is constantly under tension and can also wear out sooner.

This roomy fit is clearly reflected in the reviews. Several customers eventually chose a size smaller and found it to fit more comfortably. A customer with shoe size 37 chose size 36/37 and still described the fit as slightly roomy. Another customer tried both her normal size and a size smaller: both fit, but the smaller size clearly fit more smoothly without pinching. These are personal customer experiences; the fit remains dependent on your feet and lower legs.

Also great as warm bed socks

Although these knee-high socks were originally intended primarily for boots, customers also like to wear them in bed. A customer with chronically cold feet mentioned that she had already been using her pair as bed socks for a year. Due to the roomy fit, she could easily take the socks off as soon as her feet were warm enough. She had only aired them out during that period and thought they were still in great condition.

This is a personal customer experience and not a medical guarantee. The knee-high socks are not medical socks, compression stockings, or a treatment for circulation problems. If you have persistent or unexplained complaints regarding your feet or legs, seek advice from a doctor or foot specialist.

Why choose socks made from 100% organic wool?

For many socks sold as 'wool socks', a large part of the material consists of polyamide, acrylic, or elastane. These synthetic fibers make socks stronger, but also ensure that you do not experience the full properties of pure wool.

These Hirsch Natur knee-high socks consist of 100% organic wool. Wool helps regulate the temperature around your feet, can absorb moisture without feeling clammy, and holds onto odors less easily. As a result, wool socks usually do not need to be washed after every wear.

The wool comes from controlled organic livestock farming. This means that attention is paid not only to the material but also to the conditions in which the sheep are kept.

Being honest about the wear and tear of pure wool socks

100% wool socks are wonderful, but they are not indestructible. Because no strong synthetic fibers have been added to the wool, they can wear out faster than socks with plastic. Especially at the heel, toes, and ball of the foot, thin spots or holes can develop over time.

How quickly this happens varies greatly per person. The fit of the sock, the inside of your shoes, the way you walk, sharp nail edges, calluses, and the intensity with which you wear the socks all play a role.

For example, one customer mentioned that, despite our advice, she regularly wore her knee-high socks indoors without slippers. After an entire winter of daily use, two of her six socks had a hole. She thought that was acceptable and wanted to repair them. However, it remains better not to wear pure wool socks directly on a bare floor: sand and dirt act like sandpaper on the wool due to constant friction.

Normal wear and tear is not a manufacturing defect and is not covered by the warranty. Therefore, check your socks regularly. Do you see a thin spot? Repair it before a full hole develops. In our blog Hole in your wool sock? How to prevent and repair it, we explain exactly what you can do. Also, take a look at our darning wool, darning needles, and other repair accessories.

How to make your wool knee-high socks last longer

  • Choose a size that fits smoothly without pulling or wrinkling.
  • Wear them in well-fitting shoes or slippers.
  • Do not walk directly on a hard or dirty floor with them.
  • Rotate different pairs and give the wool a rest.
  • Keep toenails smooth and treat sharp calluses.
  • Check the heel, toes, and ball of the foot after wearing.
  • Repair thin spots before a real hole develops.

Pure wool socks can also be slippery on a wooden floor or stairs. Indoors, therefore, preferably use them in well-fitting slippers or house shoes.

Airing and washing wool socks

Wool naturally has self-cleaning properties. Let the knee-high socks air out well after wearing, for example outside in a dry place or in a ventilated bathroom. Often that is enough to make them fresh again.

Do they still need to be washed? Then always follow the wash label and choose a real wool wash program at a maximum of 30 degrees, with little movement and a low spin speed. Use a small amount of suitable wool detergent with lanolin, such as our Lanalicious detergent for wool and silk. Do not use regular detergent, fabric softener, or a tumble dryer.

Gently bring the socks into shape after washing and let them air dry, away from a hot radiator. Do not wring them out. Heat, friction, and strong temperature changes can cause untreated wool to shrink or felt.

Wol is fantastisch

And just like that, you were gone!

Was koud of lauw
