All about this product

Hirsch Natur thin Norwegian wool socks jeans/white

These socks are roughly the blue jeans of our wool sock collection: easy, timeless, and always a good choice. The fine Norwegian pattern in off-white contrasts beautifully with the heathered jeans-blue base. A calm color combination that is distinctive enough to be seen when showing from under your trouser leg.

Model 156 belongs to the thinnest wool socks from Hirsch Natur. They are about as thick as regular cotton socks, making them suitable for many shoes where the thick Norwegian models take up too much space. Yet, they are made of 100% organic wool, with all the fine temperature- and moisture-regulating properties that come with it.

  • Thin wool socks with a fine Norwegian pattern
  • Jeans blue combined with off-white
  • Made of 100% organic wool (kbT)
  • Produced in Germany
  • Warm, breathable, and moisture-regulating
  • Suitable for regular shoes, sneakers, and boots
  • For women and men
  • Hirsch Natur runs large: choose the smaller size if in doubt

Jeans blue goes with truly everything

Jeans blue is slightly softer and more vibrant than plain dark blue. Due to the different blue wool fibers, the base color gets a natural, heathered appearance. The pattern is not bright white, but rather off-white or ecru. As a result, the contrast remains calm and warm.

The socks naturally combine well with jeans, but also with gray, green, cognac, dark blue, and natural tones. The solid jeans blue at the cuff, heel, and toe makes the design less busy and ensures that the socks also fit under a neat or calm outfit.

Wool is a natural product. Consequently, the shade and structure may vary very slightly per pair or shipment. That is part of the material and gives every sock its own natural look.

Thin wool socks for regular shoes

Not everyone has shoes that fit a thick wool sock. Fortunately, you don't automatically have to stuff a complete winter knit into your sneakers to enjoy the benefits of wool. Model 156 is roughly comparable to a normal cotton sock and takes up much less space than the thick Norwegian 030 models.

These socks are therefore suitable for daily use in sneakers, low shoes, work shoes, and regular boots. They can be nice in the spring and autumn, but also during fresh summer days or indoors.

Are you very sensitive to cold, do you wear spacious winter shoes, or are you looking for socks for standing still in the cold for long periods? Then a thicker model might be more suitable. In our wool sock buying guide, we compare the different models and thicknesses.

Why thin wool can still feel warm

Wool traps stagnant air between the fibers and thus helps to retain heat around your feet. At the same time, the material can absorb moisture without feeling clammy immediately. That makes wool socks pleasant in varying temperatures.

Thinner socks isolate less than thick socks, but often leave more room for movement in regular shoes. That is important: when a thick sock clamps your foot tightly in the shoe, your toes can actually feel colder.

This thin version is therefore a nice middle ground for those who want to wear pure wool without needing a larger shoe.

Not a technical hiking sock with extra cushioning

These socks are fine to wear during a daily walk, but they are not specifically constructed as a technical hiking sock. They have no locally thickened zones, extra cushioning, or synthetic reinforcement at the heel and toes.

A customer shares that the socks feel soft and pleasant for her, but that she would not choose them for long hikes due to the limited cushioning. That is a useful personal experience: if you are looking for socks for long distances, heavy hiking boots, or intensive outdoor use, also take a look at our wool hiking socks.

Hirsch sizing advice: rather smaller than too large

Hirsch Natur socks generally run large. Are you between two combined sizes? Then choose the smaller size. For shoe size 39, for example, we recommend size 38/39 and not size 40/41.

The shaped heel of the sock should sit roughly on your own heel. Does it come up above your foot or is there a lot of material left over at your toes? Then the sock is likely too big.

A sock that is too large can start to slide and fold in your shoe. That is less comfortable and causes extra friction. Especially with a thin sock made of 100% wool, this can accelerate wear.

An almost entirely wool cuff

In the upper part of the cuff, a few very fine elastic threads are incorporated. These help to keep the sock in place along your leg. The threads are embedded in the wool knit and do not come into direct contact with the skin.

There is no nylon or elastane running through the rest of the sock. The foot section consists entirely of wool and therefore fits less tightly than a synthetic sports or compression sock.

Real customer experiences

Customer experience: several customers especially appreciate that these socks are thin enough for regular shoes and boots. One customer describes them as soft and pleasantly cool while wearing. Another wearer finds them nice and warm and says they fit well in her regular boots.

Customer experience: multiple customers confirm that the socks run large and spacious. One customer consciously chose a size smaller for a subsequent order and was satisfied with that. Another customer lets her socks air out after every wear and has therefore hardly had to wash them.

These are personal experiences. How warm, cool, or soft wool feels differs per person. The experiences are not a medical guarantee and do not imply that everyone will experience the socks in exactly the same way.

Thin pure wool is comfortable, but more vulnerable

These socks contain no synthetic fibers to reinforce the heel, toes, or sole. A thin knit of 100% wool can therefore wear out faster than a thicker sock or a sock to which nylon has been added.

How quickly wear occurs depends, among other things, on your shoes, insoles, foot shape, calluses, nails, and way of walking. Check if the inside of your shoes is smooth and if there are no damaged edges or rough spots rubbing against the sock.

Do not use these thin socks as slippers on a hard floor. Do you want to wear them at home? Then pull suitable slippers over them. Normal wear and tear due to use is not a manufacturing defect and is not covered by the warranty.

Repair a thin spot before it becomes a hole

Check the heel, ball of the foot, and toes regularly. Do you see the knit getting thinner somewhere? Then that is the moment to darn the sock. Repairing a thin spot is easier than repairing a large hole.

In our blog Help, I have a hole in my wool sock you can read why wool socks wear out and how you can repair them. Darning wool and other handy materials can be found among our repair accessories for wool socks.

Let the wool work: air first, then wash

Wool naturally often stays fresh for a long time. Let the socks air out after wearing and preferably give them a day of rest. This gives the wool fibers the chance to release moisture and regain their shape.

Do the socks need to be washed after all? Follow the care label and use a true wool wash program at a maximum of 30 degrees with a low spin speed. A hand wash program is not always equally gentle and can cause more movement than wool likes.

Use a little bit of suitable wool detergent, such as Lanalicious. Do not use fabric softener, do not wring the socks out, and never put them in the dryer. Gently bring them into shape and let them dry lying flat in the air.

Wol is fantastisch

And just like that, you were gone!

Was koud of lauw
