Hirsch Natur thin Norwegian wool socks turquoise
As if someone took a Scandinavian winter pattern for a refreshing dip in the sea. These thin Hirsch Natur socks combine deep turquoise with light blue Norwegian motifs. Subtle enough for daily wear, but definitely more cheerful than an average solid-colored sock.
Model 156 is one of the thinnest wool socks in our collection. This makes this version much easier to fit into regular shoes than the thick Norwegian models. The socks are made of 100% certified organic wool and are produced in Germany.

Turquoise without the tropical vibes
This color is not a bright swimming pool turquoise, but a deep blue-green hue. The light blue pattern gives the sock a fresher look and makes the various Scandinavian motifs stand out nicely. The solid-colored cuff, heel, and toe provide a balanced overall look.
Turquoise is surprisingly easy to combine with denim, navy, grey, green, and neutral tones. Under long trousers, you mainly see the deep base color. If you roll up your pant legs a little, the full Norwegian pattern appears. A little party around your ankles, without having to go through life looking like a walking Christmas sweater.
Wool is a natural product. As a result, the color and structure may vary slightly per pair or shipment. This is characteristic of the material and gives each sock its own natural appearance.
How thin is model 156?
The socks from the Hirsch Natur 156 series are roughly comparable to regular cotton socks. They are significantly thinner than the well-known Norwegian socks from the 030 series and therefore take up much less room in your shoes.
This makes this version suitable for sneakers, low shoes, work boots, and other models where a thick wool sock won't fit. They are also pleasant to wear in the spring and autumn. Some people even wear thin wool socks in the summer because wool not only insulates but also helps regulate moisture and temperature.
Do you always have cold feet or are you looking for socks for very roomy winter boots? Then a thicker model might be more comfortable. In our wool sock buying guide, we compare the different types and thicknesses.
Warmth without unnecessarily bulky shoes
A thicker sock is not automatically warmer. When your shoes become too tight due to a thick sock, your feet can actually feel cold. Your toes need enough space to move freely.
These thin socks are therefore a good choice when you want the natural properties of wool but don't have space for a thick knit. Wool insulates, breathes, and can absorb moisture without immediately feeling clammy. This helps the material regulate the temperature around your feet.
The socks are made entirely of wool and contain no synthetic fibers to wick away moisture or hide odors. Wool naturally stays fresh for longer, which means you don't have to wash the socks as often.
Thin sock under a thicker pair
Some customers use these thin socks on very cold days as an extra layer under a thicker pair. That can be nice, but only if your shoes offer enough room for it. Two pairs of socks in a shoe that is too tight cause pressure and extra friction.
Do you want to wear layers? Check that both socks are smooth against your foot and do not fold over anywhere. Your toes should still be able to move freely. For many people, one well-fitting wool sock in a roomy shoe is more comfortable than two pairs that are too tight together.
Hirsch sizing advice: these socks run large
Hirsch Natur socks generally run generously. Are you between two combined sizes? Choose the smaller size. If you wear shoe size 39, for example, we recommend size 38/39 and not 40/41.
The heel of the sock should sit roughly on your own heel. If there is a lot of material left over at the toes or the shaped heel ends up above your foot, the sock is likely too big.
A sock that is too large can fold and slide inside your shoe. This is less comfortable and causes extra friction, which can make the thin knit wear out faster. So, don't choose a larger size just to be safe.
How does a 100% wool sock stay up?
In the upper part of the cuff, some very fine elastic threads are incorporated. These help the sock stay up around the leg. The threads are embedded in the wool knit and do not come into direct contact with the skin.
The rest of the sock consists of 100% wool. There is no elastane or nylon running through the entire foot section. This provides that pure wool wearing experience, but it also means the sock fits a little less tightly around the foot than a synthetic sports sock.
Real customer experiences
Customer experience: a customer describes these turquoise socks as soft, beautiful in color, and comfortable in fit. She followed the Hirsch sizing advice, chose a size smaller than usual, and says this size fits her perfectly.
Customer experience: other customers appreciate that the socks are thin yet feel warm. One wearer uses them separately on warmer days and under a thicker pair on very cold days. Another customer finds the thickness comparable to regular socks and can therefore wear them in almost all her shoes.
These are personal experiences. Whether wool feels soft, warm, or itch-free varies from person to person. Customer experiences are therefore not a medical guarantee or a promise that everyone will experience the same.
Thin pure wool requires a little attention
These socks contain no nylon, polyester, or other synthetic fibers to reinforce high-wear areas. Moreover, a thin knit is logically more fragile than a thick wool sock. Friction can eventually cause thin spots or holes to develop.
Therefore, always wear them in well-fitting shoes with a smooth interior. Check that the insole is not damaged or roughened, and keep your nails trimmed. Calluses, protruding toes, your walking style, and daily wear of the same pair can also accelerate wear.
Do not use these socks as slippers on a hard floor. Do you want to wear them at home? Then wear well-fitting slippers over them. Normal wear and tear is not a manufacturing defect and is not covered by the warranty.
A thin spot can often still be saved
Check the heels, toes, and ball of the foot regularly. Do you see the knit getting thinner? Repair it before a large hole develops. This is easier and gives your socks a much better chance of a longer life.
In our blog Help, I have a hole in my wool sock, we explain why wool socks wear out and how you can repair them. Suitable darning wool and other aids can be found in our repair accessories for wool socks.
Airing out, resting, and washing only when necessary
Wool socks do not need to go in the washing machine after every wear. Let them air out properly and preferably give the wool fibers a day to recover. Often, the socks are fresh enough to wear again after that.
Do they need to be washed? Then follow the wash label and use the wool cycle at a maximum of 30 degrees with a low spin speed. A regular or intensive wash cycle causes too much friction and temperature differences.
Use a small amount of suitable wool detergent, such as Lanalicious. Do not use fabric softener, do not wring the socks out, and never put them in the dryer. Gently reshape them after washing and let them dry flat in the air.
