A thin wool sock for almost every season
Not everyone has room for thick Norwegian socks in their shoes. Model 156 is therefore one of the thinnest wool socks from Hirsch Natur. The finer knit structure takes up about as much space as a regular cotton sock, while offering the temperature- and moisture-regulating properties of pure wool.
These socks therefore fit easily into sneakers, lace-up shoes, ankle boots, and many formal shoes. They are ideal when your shoes become too tight with thick wool socks, but you still don't want to wear cotton or synthetic material on your feet.
One customer even calls the Andorra socks a ‘must-have for chilly summer days’. She found them lovely to wear and true to size. That is a personal customer experience, but it describes this thin quality perfectly: light enough for mild weather and yet cozy when the temperature drops.
What makes the color Andorra special?
Andorra is a deep, warm rust-brown shade. The dark Norwegian pattern gives the socks plenty of detail without looking overly busy. This makes them combine beautifully with denim, olive green, dark blue, brown, beige, and black.
The color is more striking than gray or dark blue, but still easy to wear. Even when only a small piece of the sock shows above your shoe, Andorra gives your outfit that extra bit of warmth and color.
Wool is a natural material. As a result, color and structure may vary slightly per pair or production batch. This is inherent to pure natural fibers and makes every pair just a little bit unique.
Wool keeps you warm without a thick layer
A wool sock doesn't have to be very thick to feel pleasantly warm. Wool fibers trap air and help regulate the temperature around your feet. At the same time, wool can absorb moisture without immediately feeling wet or clammy.
This makes these thin socks comfortable for people who suffer from cold feet easily, but lack the room for a heavy knit sock. If your shoe becomes too tight due to a thick sock, it can actually have the opposite effect. Your toes need sufficient space and a small insulating layer of air.
Moreover, wool holds onto odors less easily than many synthetic materials. That doesn't mean the socks never get dirty, but it does mean that airing them out is often sufficient and they usually don't need to be washed after every wear.
What is the sizing advice for these Hirsch Natur socks?
Hirsch Natur socks generally run large. Our experience in the shop is therefore that when in doubt, it is usually better to choose the smaller size. If you wear shoe size 39 or 40, for example, take a look at size 38/39 first.
For this specific model, a customer indicated that her Andorra socks were actually true to size. This shows that not only your shoe size, but also the width of your foot and your personal preference are important.
Use this practical check:
- The heel of the sock should sit around your own heel.
- There should be no bunching of excess fabric at your toes.
- Your toes should be able to move freely.
- The sock should not twist or crease while walking.
- Do you have narrow feet or are you between two sizes? Choose the smaller size.
Pure wool becomes more supple during wear. Therefore, do not choose a size that is unnecessarily large. An overly large sock can slide around in your shoe, while an overly small sock is constantly under tension at the heel and toes. Both can accelerate wear.

Does the cuff stay up?
Tiny elastic threads are knitted into the top approximately five centimeters of the cuff. These help to keep the sock in place. The elastic is fully integrated into the knit and does not touch your skin. The material that lies directly against your foot and leg therefore remains purely natural.
The cuff should sit comfortably around your leg. However, this is not a special medical or non-binding sock. Do you have persistent complaints about your feet or legs, or do you suffer easily from constricting cuffs? Please seek personal or medical advice.
Are these thin wool socks suitable for walking?
In shoes, yes; as slippers, no. Thin socks made of 100% wool are more fragile than thick wool socks and contain no synthetic reinforcement. If you walk directly on a hard floor with them, sand grains and other small debris can quickly cause the wool to wear out.
Therefore, wear the socks indoors with well-fitting slippers or house shoes. This not only helps prevent holes but is also safer: wool socks can be slippery on stairs and smooth floors.
For long or intensive walks, we recommend a wool hiking sock specifically designed for that purpose. This thin Norwegian sock is primarily intended as a comfortable daily sock and offers less cushioning than a true hiking sock.
Honest about wear of 100% wool
Pure wool socks can wear out. This is not a defect in the product, but a characteristic of socks without strong synthetic fibers. Most wear occurs at the heel, toes, and ball of the foot.
How quickly this happens depends, among other things, on the fit, the inside of your shoes, your way of walking, toenails, calluses, and how often you wear the socks. Some people only see a thin spot after a long time, while others have to repair them much sooner.
Normal wear and tear is not covered by the warranty. Therefore, check your socks regularly and don't wait until there is a large hole. A thin spot is much easier to reinforce than a completely worn-through knit.

How to make your Andorra socks last longer
- Choose a size that fits snugly around your foot.
- Wear them in well-fitting shoes without rough seams.
- Do not walk directly on hard floors with them.
- Rotate different pairs and give the wool a rest.
- Let the socks air out well after wearing.
- Keep toenails smooth and take care of sharp calluses.
- Regularly check the heel, toes, and ball of the foot.
- Repair thin spots before a hole develops.
How do you wash thin wool socks?
Let the socks air out well after wearing. Wool has natural self-cleaning properties and holds onto odors less easily. Often, a night in a dry, ventilated place is enough to get them fresh again.
Do they still need to be washed? Always follow the wash label. Wash them cold or lukewarm. If machine washing is allowed on the label, only use a genuine wool wash program at a maximum of 30 degrees, with little movement and a low spin speed.
Use a small amount of suitable wool detergent containing lanolin, such as our Lanalicious detergent for wool and silk. Do not use regular detergent, fabric softener, or a tumble dryer.
Do not wring out the socks. Gently squeeze out the excess water, gently bring them into shape, and let them air dry. Never lay wet wool on a hot radiator. Heat, friction, and temperature differences can cause the wool to shrink or felt.
