Repair before throwing away becomes necessary
Wool is a beautiful natural product, but it can eventually become thin due to frequent wear and friction. Elbows and knees, in particular, endure quite a lot. Fortunately, a worn spot does not mean you have to say goodbye to your garment immediately.
Sew a wool patch over the damaged area to reinforce the fabric. You can use the patches when there is already a hole, or as a preventative measure on a spot that is starting to thin. Repairing in time is often easier than waiting until your elbow is poking halfway out of your sweater in the middle of winter.
How to attach the knee or elbow patches
Place the patch over the worn area and make sure the damaged part is completely covered. Pin it in place and try the garment on if necessary. This allows you to check if the patch is in the right position when you bend your arm or knee.
Then, sew the patch on all around. This can be done with a sewing machine or simply by hand. You can turn the repair into a design detail with a visible blanket stitch, or keep the result subtle with matching thread.
Is the existing hole very large? Secure the loose edges with a few stitches before sewing the patch over it. This prevents the hole from tearing further under the repair.
From repair to style detail
A repair doesn't have to be invisible at all. In fact, a wool patch in a contrasting color can add extra character to a simple sweater, jacket, or pair of trousers. TURQUOISE is perfect for this: striking enough to add something, but calm enough to combine easily.
Would you rather repair it as inconspicuously as possible? Then choose the shade that most closely matches your garment from the other six colors. We have variants in various neutral and colored tones.
How to care for the repaired garment
Always follow the washing instructions for the original garment after application. Fortunately, wool requires very little washing: airing it out regularly is often sufficient.
Does the garment need to be washed? Use a wool wash cycle, a low temperature, and a low spin speed. Wash with a suitable wool detergent, such as our LANALICIOUS wool and silk detergent, and let the garment dry lying flat.
Are small pills forming from wear? You can carefully remove them with a Gleener fabric shaver. Use a suitable fine attachment and work carefully around the seams and edges of the patch.
