FISHERMAN wool men's sweater JOEP SCOTS PINE made of pure merino wool
This is the kind of sweater that makes you spontaneously crave fresh air, sturdy walking boots, and an Irish landscape where the wind always blows just a little more enthusiastically than expected. The FISHERMAN OUT OF IRELAND JOEP is a classically knitted men's wool sweater made of 100% pure merino wool. Warm, timeless, and sturdy enough to last for many winters to come.
The SCOTS PINE color is a deep blue-green shade with the characteristic colored flecks of Donegal yarn. This ensures the sweater never looks flat or boring. The round neck features a subtle rolled edge, and the sleeves and hem are finished with a similar rolled trim. No complicated frills, just a very good wool sweater that you can effortlessly pair with jeans, corduroy trousers, or sturdy chinos.

A roll neck without a high collar
The name "roll neck" can be a bit confusing. JOEP does not have a high collar that you fold over; it is a round neck with a narrow, rolled edge. This gives the sweater a rugged and relaxed look without completely wrapping up your neck.
The same subtle rolled trim is found on the sleeves and the bottom hem. This gives the sweater that typically unpretentious Fisherman look: robust, but definitely not bulky.
How does the FISHERMAN JOEP fit?
JOEP has a regular men's fit and is true to size. Therefore, you should generally choose the size you usually wear. The sweater fits neatly without being tight against the body and offers enough room for a thin shirt underneath.
Do you prefer a looser fit or want to layer it with something thicker? Then you might consider sizing up. If you prefer a normal, classic fit, your usual size is the best choice.
Although JOEP is designed as a men's sweater, it can of course be worn by women just as well. In that case, choose a smaller size and keep in mind the longer sleeves and straight men's fit.
Pure merino with a real wool feel
JOEP has a relatively chunky knit and therefore feels like a real wool sweater. The merino wool helps to retain your body heat while simultaneously allowing the material to breathe and absorb moisture. This makes the sweater pleasant for cold days outdoors, but also for days when the heating indoors can be turned down a notch.
We deliberately do not call it buttery soft or guaranteed itch-free. How wool feels is personal, and this sturdy knit structure clearly has more character than a paper-thin merino top. Are you sensitive to wool? Then wear a thin shirt from our wool-silk collection underneath. This way, you benefit from the warmth without the coarser wool lying directly on your skin.
Which color will you choose?
We have the FISHERMAN JOEP in three heathered colors:
-
SCOTS PINE: a deep blue-green to petrol shade with colorful Donegal flecks
-
SEAWEED: a calm olive-to-moss green color that is very easy to combine
-
STEEL WOOL: a classic heathered gray shade that goes with absolutely everything
SCOTS PINE is distinctive enough to be special, but calm enough to wear as a daily basic. And for those who want to look their absolute best: we also have a matching wool scarf and beanie available in this color. Warm head, warm neck, warm sweater. The Irish wind is going to have a hard time with you.
Why are there flecks in the wool?
The small color flecks are part of the character of Donegal yarn. During the spinning process, fibers in different shades are incorporated into the yarn. This gives every color more depth and liveliness than a completely solid knit.
The flecks are therefore not fuzz or defects in the material, but rather a hallmark of this traditional Irish wool. Up close, you see different colors; from a distance, they form one rich, heathered shade.
What should you do if the sweater starts to pill?
With a new wool sweater, small fuzz or pills may appear at the beginning. These are loose fibers that come to the surface due to friction. This can happen more quickly under the arms, along the sides, and in places where a coat or bag rubs against the sweater.
Do not pull the pills off with your fingers. This pulls new fibers out of the knit, and the pilling may start all over again. Instead, use a Gleener fabric shaver. This allows you to gently remove the pills without unnecessarily damaging the knit. After a few treatments, pilling usually decreases on its own.
How to care for the JOEP merino sweater
Fortunately, you don't have to wash wool after every wear. Merino wool is less prone to absorbing odors, and refreshing it can often be done simply by letting the sweater air out overnight outside or by an open window. This saves water, energy, and a lot of anxious staring at the washing machine.
If JOEP does need to be washed, use only a reliable cold wool wash cycle and a small amount of Lanalicious wool detergent. Do not rub, do not wring, and absolutely do not put it in the dryer. Gently pull the damp sweater into shape and let it dry flat on a towel.
Preferably store the sweater folded in the closet. On a hanger, the weight of the wool can stretch the shoulders and length. Would you like to watch Vera's explanation on caring for wool clothing? Check out the video on washing and caring for wool.
Frequently asked questions about the FISHERMAN JOEP
Is this sweater made entirely of wool?
Yes. The FISHERMAN JOEP is made of 100% pure merino wool and contains no synthetic additives.
Is JOEP a turtleneck?
No. The sweater has a round neck with a subtle rolled edge. The term "roll neck" here refers to the finish of the neckline, not a high collar.
How does the sweater fit?
JOEP fits true to size and has a regular men's fit. Therefore, you should generally choose your usual size.
Is this merino sweater itchy?
That depends on the person. JOEP is a relatively chunky knit and has a true wool feel. If you are sensitive to wool, wear a thin shirt made of wool and silk or cotton underneath, or come visit us to try the sweater on first.
Can the sweater be machine washed?
Only if your washing machine has a reliable cold wool wash cycle. Airing it out is always our preference. Wash with special wool detergent, do not use fabric softener, and let the sweater dry flat.
Are there matching accessories?
Yes. For the SCOTS PINE color, we also stock a matching wool scarf and beanie from Fisherman Out of Ireland.
