ANUKOO sustainable and fair-trade fashion from Austria

The sustainable label Anukoo comes from Austria. Anukoo has its heart in the right place when it comes to sustainable fashion. “Anukoo” means “favorable” in Hindi. That is exactly what they strive to be for others, the world, and the employees and workers in the fashion industry.

Comfortable and transparent!

Anukoo stands for beautiful and comfortable clothing made from Fairtrade-certified organic cotton and for a 100% transparent production process. From the farmers growing organic cotton in Mauritius and India to the processing of the cotton by Craft Aid in Mauritius, they are all partner organizations of EZA: The fair-trade organization that also supplies fair-trade shops in Austria, similar to what we know here as "wereldwinkels" (fair-trade shops).

All these links in the chain ensure humane, fair, and environmentally friendly production together. No pesticides are used, there is no child labor, and no discrimination. Instead, there are fair wages, social security, and healthy working conditions.

Corporate social responsibility is a joint effort!

If, for example, there is not enough cotton growing in Mauritius, Anukoo calls upon cotton farmers in India. These are small family businesses that grow organic cotton in combination with lentils, chickpeas, and other crops. This cultivation method, also known as intercropping, ensures healthy soil and healthy food at the same time. A real win-win situation. For their cotton, the farmers and their workers receive the minimum price plus a social premium, which allows them to realize larger projects. This includes building schools, drinking water facilities, and buying cows, which in turn provide manure for the plantations and for the production of biogas.

Ship it, don't fly it!

The cotton is then transported by ship to the socially engaged company Craft Aid in Mauritius, where approximately 200 people work, including people with social and physical disabilities. They weave, cut, print, sew, and package, and receive a wage that is 40% (!) higher than the minimum. In addition, there is a lot of focus on ensuring working hours are pleasant and realistic, which benefits job satisfaction.

Furthermore, Craft Aid runs entirely on renewable energy, which makes the story even cleaner in every respect.
