This is one of those skirts that you will likely wear much more often in winter than you think beforehand. How does the wool skirt AVA by MADNESS fit?

The AVA has a beautifully fitted but not constricting cut. In the photos, I am wearing a size 42. On me, the skirt falls above the knee and fits nicely around the waist and hips.

Because there is no zipper that needs to fit somewhere, the skirt also feels a lot easier to wear than many classic wool skirts. The waist is forgiving: just put it on and go.

What is boiled wool?

Boiled wool is made more compact through a special process. This creates that characteristic soft, slightly felted texture that you can see well in the detail photos. The fabric is denser and sturdier than a standard knit but retains the fine properties of wool.

The result is exactly what you want from a skirt like the AVA: warm, soft, and shape-retaining, without creating a thick, bulky winter skirt.

In which colors is the MADNESS AVA available?

We have the AVA in two colors: a beautiful deep blue and a warm burgundy-like shade. Both are incredibly easy to combine, but with a totally different effect.

Blue is, of course, a color that goes with almost everything. The burgundy color is a bit warmer and looks stunning with pink, red, rust, cream, and all kinds of autumn tones.

How do you style this wool skirt?

You can really go in any direction here. In the photos, I am wearing the AVA neatly with a colorful blouse and heels, but please don't just label it as a 'dressy skirt'.

We think it is just as lovely with a nice wool sweater, tights, and a pair of sturdy boots. Or with a turtleneck, cardigan, blouse, or wool long-sleeve. This allows you to wear the same skirt to work, to dinner, and just on a regular weekday.

Is a boiled wool skirt warm?

Yes! And that is exactly why we love wool skirts so much in the autumn and winter. Wool is naturally temperature-regulating, and the compact structure of boiled wool provides plenty of warmth without needing an incredibly thick layer of fabric.

With a good pair of wool tights underneath, you have a wonderful winter combination.

How do you wash the MADNESS AVA wool skirt?

The great thing about wool is that you don't have to wash it after every wear. Air drying is often enough. That is better for the wool, better for your clothes, and saves you a lot of laundry.

Does the AVA need to be washed? Always follow the care label and use a suitable wool detergent, such as Lanalicious wool detergent. Avoid large temperature differences, rubbing, and wringing, and let the skirt dry flat in shape after washing.

Can boiled wool pill?

With natural wool fibers, some pilling can occur over time due to friction, for example in places where a bag or coat rubs against the fabric. That is normal and says nothing about the quality of the wool.

You can gently remove any lint with our Gleener fabric shaver. This will keep the wool looking beautiful for years.
