All about this product

FISHERMAN Woolen zip-neck sweater BAS lambswool

This is the kind of sweater that makes you think of Ireland immediately. Rugged rocky coasts, crisp sea air, and a sturdy knitted wool sweater that keeps you warm. The FISHERMAN OUT OF IRELAND BAS, product number FH521G, is a luxurious men’s zip-neck sweater made from 100% extra soft Geelong lambswool.

The BAS features a stand-up collar with a short zipper, a beautifully textured knit pattern, and contrasting elbow patches. Rugged, practical, and smart enough to wear both outdoors and to work.

This version is called field: a natural shade of green with brown-grey accents.

Why the FISHERMAN BAS is such a great men’s wool sweater

  • Made from 100% Geelong lambswool
  • Fully mulesing-free certified wool
  • Designed and made in Ireland
  • Stand-up zip collar with half-zipper
  • Seed stitch knit pattern with a rich texture
  • Contrasting, integrated elbow patches
  • Sturdy ribbed cuffs at the neck, sleeves, and hem
  • Set-in sleeves
  • Fits true to size
  • Available in SEAFOG and FIELD

A classic zip-neck sweater

A zip-neck sweater—also known as a troyer—has a stand-up collar with a short zipper. Wear it open when you want a little extra air, or zip it all the way up when it gets chilly outside. Suddenly, a scarf seems much less essential.

The high collar gives the sweater a rugged look, but it remains easy to combine. Wear a shirt underneath for a polished look, or just style it with a T-shirt and jeans. It also fits nicely under a coat, as you can close the collar without needing a bulky scarf.

Seed stitch: sturdy knit with lots of texture

The BAS is knitted in a seed stitch, a technique that creates a firm, granular knit pattern with plenty of depth. The pattern not only looks beautiful but also gives the sweater its full and warm character. The ribbed collar, cuffs, and bottom hem ensure the shape is maintained.

Integrated elbow patches

The contrasting elbow patches are not sewn onto the sweater separately, but are knitted directly into the design. They add a rugged detail to the BAS while reinforcing the area that often takes the most wear on a wool sweater.

In the SEAFOG colorway, the elbow patches are executed in a brighter shade of blue. This color subtly echoes in the heathered knit and gives the otherwise quiet sweater just enough character. Apparently, functional can also be very beautiful.

SEAFOG or FIELD?

SEAFOG is a heathered blue-grey color with soft brown and taupe tones. The bright blue elbow patches and blue details in the collar and cuffs give the sweater a fresh look. Looks great with denim, dark blue, beige, brown, and grey.

FIELD is a calm, natural shade of green with brown-grey nuances. This color does exactly what its name promises: forest, field, moss, and Ireland in one sweater. FIELD combines beautifully with dark denim, corduroy, brown, neutrals, and other shades of green.

How does the FISHERMAN BAS fit?

The BAS fits true to size and has a classic, straight men’s fit. Therefore, you should generally choose your usual size. Would you like to wear a shirt or a thicker long-sleeve underneath, or do you prefer a slightly looser fit? Then you might consider sizing up.

For comparison: for a size M, the chest width is approximately 53 cm and the back length is about 67 cm. The chest width is measured flat from armpit to armpit.

What is Geelong lambswool?

Geelong lambswool is a particularly fine and soft quality of wool. The fibers feel suppler than many firmer, traditional types of wool, while the wool remains wonderfully warm and breathable.

Wool can retain heat while simultaneously absorbing and releasing moisture. This prevents a wool sweater from feeling clammy as quickly as many synthetic sweaters do.

How wool feels on the skin is a personal matter. Are you very sensitive? Wear a thin cotton or wool-silk shirt underneath, or come and try the sweater on with us first.

How to care for this woolen zip-neck sweater

Fortunately, you almost never have to wash wool. Simply let the sweater air out after wearing. This is usually sufficient to refresh it and helps to keep the fibers and shape looking good for longer.

If the BAS does need washing, use a cold wool wash cycle and a small amount of Lanalicious wool detergent with lanolin. Do not wring, do not tumble dry, and do not hang it over a hot radiator. Gently reshape the sweater and let it dry flat.

Pilling in wool is not necessarily a quality problem

Friction can cause small pills or bobbles to form on natural wool fibers, for example, under the arms or where a jacket rubs against the sweater. This is normal and does not mean the wool is of poor quality.

Remove pills carefully with a Gleener fabric shaver. It is better not to pull them off with your fingers, as this can pull fibers out of the knit.

Wol is fantastisch

And just like that, you were gone!

Was koud of lauw
