FISHERMAN Wool skipper sweater with zip BAS SEAFOG lambswool
The kind of sweater that makes you think immediately: yes, this will get me through the winter. The FISHERMAN OUT OF IRELAND BAS SEAFOG is a warm men's sweater made of 100% mulesing-free Geelong lambswool. It features a high skipper collar with a zip, a sturdy seed-stitch knit, and contrasting elbow patches.
SEAFOG is a beautiful combination of blue, grey, and warm brown. The different shades blend subtly together, while the collar, cuffs, and elbow patches show a more prominent blue. Subtle enough to wear often, but definitely not just your average men's sweater.
This Fisherman sweater has model number FH521G. We have BAS in two colors: SEAFOG and FIELD.

SEAFOG: blue with warm brownish-grey
SEAFOG is composed of various muted shades of blue and brownish-grey. Due to the marled yarn and the texture of the knit, the color changes slightly with the light. Sometimes it appears clearly blue, while at other times it looks greyer or warmer.
The blue elbow patches, zip collar, and ribbed cuffs provide a beautiful contrast. SEAFOG combines easily with denim, navy, grey, brown, sand, and corduroy. Honestly, you don’t have to think too hard about it. Sweater on, trousers on, done.
What is a skipper sweater?
A skipper sweater, also known as a troyer, has a stand-up collar with a short zipper. Wear the zip closed when it’s cold, or open it up a bit when you want more ventilation.
You can easily wear a T-shirt, wool undershirt, long-sleeve, or button-down shirt under the sweater. With a button-down shirt, BAS gets a polished look; with a T-shirt underneath, it becomes a bit sportier.
The seed-stitch knit
The sweater is knitted in a characteristic seed stitch. This creates a small, granular structure that gives the knit more depth and traps air between the wool fibers.
This makes BAS feel warmer and sturdier than a smooth-knit wool sweater. At the same time, the fit remains flexible enough to move comfortably. It is a true winter sweater, without making you look like you are heading out on a polar expedition.
Knitted elbow patches for extra durability
There are contrasting knitted patches on the elbows. These are not only a nice detail, but they also protect the areas where a wool sweater often wears thin first due to use.
The elbow patches are fully integrated into the design. So, you don't get separate patches sewn on later, but a sturdy and neat finish that perfectly complements the blue cuffs and collar.
How does the FISHERMAN BAS fit?
BAS has a regular, straight men's fit and is true to size. Therefore, choose the size you normally wear. The sweater fits neatly but offers enough room for a thin shirt or button-down underneath.
For size M, the width from armpit to armpit is approximately 53 cm. The back length is approximately 67 cm. Want to compare the fit? Lay a well-fitting sweater flat and measure it without pulling the knit.
Do you prefer your sweaters a bit looser, or do you want to be able to wear a thicker layer underneath? Then you might consider a size larger. In doubt? Please contact us. We’d be happy to measure BAS for you.
What is Geelong lambswool?
Geelong lambswool is a very fine, soft wool quality from young sheep. The fibers are softer and finer than many common wool types, but they still offer the warmth and resilience you expect from a good wool winter sweater.
Wool can retain heat, breathe, and absorb moisture without feeling clammy. This keeps BAS comfortable when you are alternating between indoors and outdoors.
How wool feels on the skin remains a personal preference. Are you very sensitive to wool? Wear a thin shirt or undershirt underneath, or come feel the sweater in our shop in Rotterdam first.
SEAFOG or FIELD?
SEAFOG is a marled combination of blue and warm brownish-grey, with distinct blue cuffs and elbow patches. Calm, cool, and very easy to combine.
FIELD combines shades of green with warm brown. This color looks earthier and more pronounced, yet remains beautifully balanced due to the marled yarn.
Pilling in wool is normal
With a new wool sweater, friction can cause small pills or bobbles. This is a natural property of wool and does not mean there is anything wrong with the quality. This can happen especially under the arms, at the elbows, and in places where a coat or bag rubs.
Do not pull the pills off with your fingers. It is better to carefully use a Gleener fabric shaver. After a few maintenance sessions, pilling generally decreases on its own.
How to care for your BAS lambswool sweater
Wash a wool sweater as little as possible. Usually, airing it out for a night is enough. Wool is less prone to absorbing odors and does not need to be machine-washed after every wear.
Does BAS need washing? Use a reliable cold wool-wash program or wash it gently by hand. Use a small amount of Lanalicious wool detergent. Do not wring and never put it in the dryer.
Gently reshape the sweater after washing and let it dry flat. Store BAS preferably folded so that the sweater does not stretch out on a hanger.
