All about this product

FISHERMAN OUT OF IRELAND wool scarf made of 100% Donegal merino wool

This is not one of those thin scarves that hangs decoratively around your neck while the wind blows straight through it. The FISHERMAN OUT OF IRELAND wool scarf is generous, sturdily knitted, and truly lovely and warm. Exactly what you expect from a scarf made in Ireland, where they certainly have some experience with wind, rain, and other charming outdoor weather.

The scarf is made of 100% Donegal merino wool and features a classic cable pattern with a ribbed structure. The speckled yarn gives every color extra depth. It is unisex, timeless, and available in four colors: SCOTS PINE, SILENT NIGHT, SEAWEED, and BLACK CURRANT. We also have matching wool hats in stock for those who would like a complete set.

Why this Irish wool scarf is so great

  • 100% Donegal merino wool
  • Free of synthetic fibers
  • Warm, breathable, and moisture-regulating
  • Classic cable pattern with ribbed structure
  • Signature speckled Donegal yarn
  • Unisex model for men and women
  • Approximately 190 cm long and 20 cm wide
  • Made in County Donegal, Ireland
  • Available in four colors
  • Matching Fisherman hats available

A generous scarf that keeps you truly warm

With a length of approximately 190 cm and a width of about 20 cm, you can comfortably wrap the scarf around your neck once or twice. You can, of course, also let it hang loose over a coat. That shows off the cable pattern to extra effect, although during a gust of wind in Rotterdam, we would only recommend that if you hold onto it tightly.

The scarf is sturdily and densely knitted, but remains supple enough to wear comfortably around the neck. Due to the natural properties of wool, it retains heat while simultaneously absorbing and releasing moisture. As a result, wool feels less clammy than many synthetic materials.

What is Donegal merino wool?

Donegal wool is recognized by the small colored specks in the yarn. These give the scarf the familiar tweed-like effect and ensure that even the darkest colors do not look flat or dull. The yarn is spun in Kilcar, County Donegal, and the scarf is made in Ireland.

This wool has a bit more structure and character than very fine, smooth merino wool. How wool feels against the skin remains personal. Many people find the scarf comfortable, but if you are very sensitive to wool or always wear a scarf directly against your bare neck, please come by our shop to feel and try it on. We prefer to promise a little less honestly than to claim enthusiastically online that absolutely no one will ever feel anything.

Which color suits you?

SCOTS PINE is a deep blue-green color with subtle specks. Calm, unique, and very easy to combine with navy, gray, natural tones, and brown.

SILENT NIGHT is a deep navy blue and looks almost solid from a distance. Up close, you can see the lighter and warm specks in the yarn. A true classic that goes with absolutely everything.

SEAWEED is a rugged moss-to-olive green shade. Beautiful with camel, rust brown, denim, black, and other natural colors.

BLACK CURRANT is a rich dark purple berry color with pink, red, and blue specks. For those who want color but don't feel the need to spend the winter looking like a fluorescent road sign.

Make it a complete set

We also have matching wool hats by FISHERMAN OUT OF IRELAND in stock. The hats are made in the same characteristic colors and therefore coordinate beautifully with the scarves. Convenient if you like wearing a complete set, but also very suitable as a gift. Although we fully understand if you would rather keep the set for yourself after receiving it.

Can Donegal wool pill?

With natural wool, small pills or balls can form due to friction, especially in areas where the scarf rubs against a coat, beard, or bag. This is not unusual and does not automatically imply anything negative about the quality.

Gently remove loose pills with a Gleener fabric shaver. Do not pull them out of the knit with your fingers, as this can unnecessarily damage the wool fibers.

How to care for a pure merino wool scarf

Fortunately, you don't need to wash wool often. Hang the scarf outside regularly to air it out and treat a small stain locally if possible.

Is a full wash necessary? Wash the scarf cold on a reliable wool cycle and use a small amount of Lanalicious wool detergent with lanolin. Do not wring and do not tumble dry. Gently reshape the scarf after washing and let it dry flat. This keeps the cable pattern looking beautiful and prevents the knit from stretching.

Frequently asked questions about the Fisherman wool scarf

Yes. The model, the dimensions, and the classic cable pattern are completely unisex. You simply choose the color that best suits you or your coat.

Wol is fantastisch

And just like that, you were gone!

Was koud of lauw
