PÄÄLÄ bamboo shirt – the soft shirt we’ve missed so much
They are back! And honestly: we are very happy about that. The bamboo shirts from PÄÄLÄ have always been those shirts that customers kept asking about long after. So soft, so pleasant on the skin, and just unique enough thanks to the hand-printed designs.
So when we saw them again, we thought: come on, let’s just stock them again. Because sometimes you only really miss an item when it’s gone. And these shirts? We missed them.
PÄÄLÄ shirts are made from 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton. That makes them wonderfully supple, breathable, and mega soft. It’s truly one of those shirts you put on and think: oh yes, that’s why we loved these so much.

The kind of shirt you’ll reach for again and again
This is not a standard T-shirt. The fabric feels much softer and more supple than a regular cotton basic. Bamboo has a naturally cool, soft touch and absorbs moisture well. This makes the shirt very comfortable if you tend to get warm, move a lot, cycle, exercise, or just love wearing clothing that doesn’t chafe or itch.
The print makes every shirt just that little bit special. PÄÄLÄ essentially uses a T-shirt as a small canvas. The prints are screen-printed by hand in their own studio in Amsterdam, using water-based inks. This ensures the print stays soft to the touch and there is no thick plastic layer on your shirt. Very nice, especially on such a supple fabric.
Fit & styling
The shirt has a feminine fit with raglan sleeves and runs fairly slim. In doubt between two sizes? Definitely choose the larger size. We prefer it a bit looser rather than just a little too tight.
Because of the round neckline, short sleeves, and soft drape, this shirt is easy to wear with jeans, under a cardigan, or as a soft layer under a blouse. In autumn and winter, it’s a great base layer: not thick, but comfortable, and thanks to the print, much more fun than a plain shirt.
And yes, this shirt is also great for sports. Not as a technical athletic shirt, but as a soft, breathable shirt for yoga, walking, cycling, or a light workout.
Material & washing instructions
The PÄÄLÄ shirt is made of 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton. The fabric feels soft, supple, and breathable. That is exactly why you want to be kind to it when washing.
Wash the shirt inside out at a low temperature, preferably at 30 degrees Celsius. Use a small amount of detergent and don’t overfill the washing machine. This allows the fabric to rinse well and helps the print stay beautiful for longer.
Preferably do not put the shirt in the dryer. Hang it up neatly or let it dry flat. Iron preferably inside out and at a low temperature, especially not directly over the print.

About PÄÄLÄ
PÄÄLÄ is an Amsterdam-based brand that has been making sustainable, hand-printed clothing since 2012. Each garment is designed and hand screen-printed in their own studio in Amsterdam.
They work with natural and more sustainable materials such as bamboo, organic cotton, linen, TENCEL™, Modal, and EcoVero™. The prints are created with water-based inks. This is better for people and the environment, and ensures that the print remains soft and breathable.
What we love about PÄÄLÄ: it feels personal. Not mass-produced, not loud, but creative and unique. A little work of art on a shirt that you can just wear every day.
Sustainable & conscious
Bamboo is a fast-growing plant that requires little maintenance. To become fabric, bamboo is processed through a chemical process, which is why certification and good production are extra important. The bamboo clothing from PÄÄLÄ is made by a GOTS and OEKO-TEX®-certified producer in Turkey, with attention to environmental impact and responsible wastewater management.
The organic cotton in these shirts is OCS Blended certified. And the printing? That happens in Amsterdam, in PÄÄLÄ’s own studio. Their screen-printing studio was actually the first GOTS-certified studio in the Netherlands.
Don't buy if...
Are you looking for a sturdy, straight-cut cotton T-shirt? Then this is probably not the shirt for you. These PÄÄLÄ shirts are designed to be supple, soft, and have a finer fabric.
But are you looking for a mega soft bamboo shirt with a beautiful hand-printed design that wears comfortably as a basic and as a layer? Then you’ll immediately understand why we wanted them back.
