PÄÄLÄ bamboo shirt – the soft shirt we’ve missed so much
They’re back! And honestly: we are really happy about that. PÄÄLÄ’s bamboo shirts were always the kind of shirts that customers would ask about long after they were gone. So soft, so gentle on the skin, and just special enough thanks to the hand-printed designs.
So when we saw them again, we thought: come on, let’s just stock them again. Because sometimes you don't realize you miss an item until it’s gone. And these shirts? We missed them.
The PÄÄLÄ shirts are made from 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton. This makes them wonderfully supple, breathable, and incredibly soft. It’s truly the kind of shirt you put on and think: oh yes, that’s why we loved these so much.

The kind of shirt you’ll reach for again and again
This isn't a standard T-shirt. The fabric feels much softer and more supple than a regular cotton basic. Bamboo has a naturally cool, soft touch and absorbs moisture well. This makes the shirt very comfortable if you tend to get warm, move around a lot, cycle, exercise, or just love wearing clothing that doesn't chafe or itch.
The print makes every shirt just a little special. PÄÄLÄ essentially uses a T-shirt as a small canvas. The prints are hand-printed in their own studio in Amsterdam, using water-based inks. This ensures the print remains soft to the touch without a thick layer of plastic on your shirt. Very nice, especially on such a supple fabric.
Fit & styling
The shirt has a feminine fit with raglan sleeves and runs fairly slim. Are you between two sizes? Then definitely choose the larger size. We prefer a slightly looser fit over one that's just a bit too tight.
Thanks to the round neckline, short sleeves, and soft drape, you can easily wear this shirt with jeans, under a cardigan, or as a soft layer under a blouse. In autumn and winter, it makes for such a fine base layer: not thick, but comfortable, and thanks to the print, much more fun than a plain shirt.
And yes, this shirt is also great for exercise. Not as a technical sports shirt, but as a soft, breathable shirt for yoga, walking, cycling, or a light workout.
Material & washing instructions
The PÄÄLÄ shirt is made from 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton. The fabric feels soft, supple, and breathable. That’s exactly why you want to be a bit gentle with it when washing.
Wash the shirt inside out at a low temperature, preferably at 30 degrees. Use little detergent and don't overload the washing machine. This allows the fabric to rinse well and keeps the print looking good for longer.
It’s best not to tumble dry the shirt. Hang it up neatly or let it dry flat. Preferably iron inside out and not too hot, especially not directly over the print.

About PÄÄLÄ
PÄÄLÄ is an Amsterdam-based brand that has been making sustainable, hand-printed clothing since 2012. Each garment is designed and hand-screen printed in their own studio in Amsterdam.
They work with natural and more sustainable materials like bamboo, organic cotton, linen, TENCEL™, Modal, and EcoVero™. The prints are created with water-based inks. That is better for people and the environment, and it ensures the print stays soft and breathable.
What we love about PÄÄLÄ: it feels personal. Not mass-produced, not flashy, but creative and unique. A little piece of art on a shirt that you can just wear every day.
Sustainable & conscious
Bamboo is a fast-growing plant that requires little maintenance. To become fabric, bamboo is processed via a chemical process, which is why certification and good production are extra important. PÄÄLÄ’s bamboo clothing is made by a GOTS and OEKO-TEX® certified producer in Turkey, with attention to environmental impact and responsible wastewater management.
The organic cotton in these shirts is OCS Blended certified. And the printing? That happens in Amsterdam, in PÄÄLÄ’s own studio. Their screen-printing studio was even the first GOTS-certified studio in the Netherlands.
Don't buy if...
Are you looking for a sturdy, straight-cut cotton T-shirt? Then this is probably not the shirt for you. These PÄÄLÄ shirts are designed to be supple, soft, and have a finer fabric feel.
But if you are looking for an incredibly soft bamboo shirt with a beautiful hand-printed design that wears well as a basic and as a layering piece? Then you’ll immediately understand why we wanted them back.
