LANGERCHEN long wool men's parka DENIZ in NIGHT and PLATINUM
Are you looking for the technical features of a good outdoor jacket, but aren't particularly happy with shiny synthetic materials? Then the LANGERCHEN DENIZ is a remarkably fine solution. This long wool men's parka looks like a beautiful, understated wool coat, but features a technical PU membrane on the inside that protects against wind and rain.
DENIZ is technically constructed like our short LUCAN jacket, but is noticeably longer and features a hood and knitted inner cuffs. As a result, your upper legs, neck, head, and wrists are also better protected against cold and wind. We offer this wool parka in two colors: NIGHT and PLATINUM.

The longer brother of LUCAN
The short LUCAN and the longer DENIZ are made from the same technical wool fabric. The main difference lies in the design. LUCAN is a short worker jacket with a classic collar; DENIZ is a true parka that falls well over the hips.
Thanks to the extra length, DENIZ keeps a larger part of your body warm and protected from the wind. The hood, high closure, and snug knitted cuffs also make it better suited for cold, bleak days. Handy when the wind is blowing horizontally down the street and seems to know exactly where your jacket usually leaves a gap.
A hood that actually looks good
The fixed hood fits seamlessly into the clean design of the jacket and can be adjusted with the drawstrings. Combined with the high front, it helps protect your head, neck, and throat from wind and light rain.
If you aren't wearing the hood, it lies flat and unobtrusive against the back of the jacket. Not an enormous technical contraption that is constantly hanging behind your head, but simply a practical hood that belongs to the design.
Knitted inner cuffs against cold wind
On the inside of the sleeves are knitted cuffs that fit snugly around the wrists. They help prevent cold air from blowing in through your sleeves. That might sound like a minor detail, but on a bleak day, it makes a surprising amount of difference.
The outer sleeve falls over the knitted cuff, so on the outside, you continue to see the clean, understated line of the wool parka. Warm on the inside, neat on the outside. Exactly how we like it.
NIGHT or PLATINUM?
NIGHT is a very deep dark blue color that can look almost black. Classic, understated, and easy to combine with denim, gray, brown, black, and actually almost anything else already in your wardrobe.
PLATINUM is a heathered gray shade with a subtle gray-green appearance. Slightly lighter and sportier than NIGHT, but still very easy to wear.
The fit, technical features, and material construction are the same for both colors. So you only have to decide whether you want deep navy or heathered gray. That remains hard enough.
Three-layer Techno Felt
The special Techno Felt fabric of the DENIZ is made up of three layers:
-
Outside: 100% organic wool for warmth and a natural look
-
Middle layer: a thin PU membrane that blocks wind and offers protection against rain
-
Inside: organic cotton jersey that feels soft and comfortable
The textile fibers consist in total of 85% organic wool and 15% organic cotton. In addition, the construction contains the thin polyurethane membrane. This makes the DENIZ feel like a wool coat, while offering more protection against changeable weather than an ordinary wool parka without a technical intermediate layer.
What does the PU membrane do?
The membrane is a very thin layer incorporated into the fabric. You hardly see or feel it, but it helps keep out cold wind and rain. At the same time, body heat and perspiration can escape. This makes the DENIZ more breathable and comfortable than many fully sealed synthetic raincoats.
The seams of the jacket are not taped. During prolonged or heavy rain, moisture can eventually seep in through the stitching. Therefore, while DENIZ is perfect for a normal rain shower, it is not a fully waterproof raincoat. For an autumn walk: excellent. For standing still in a downpour for three hours: definitely wear something else.
Why is there plastic in a sustainable wool jacket?
Polyurethane is a plastic and is not biodegradable. LangerChen uses it here very specifically as a thin functional layer because it makes the jacket windproof and water-repellent. Furthermore, the outer treatment is PFC-free.
This doesn't mean the DENIZ has no environmental impact. Every new garment does. However, this parka combines natural materials with technical protection in one sturdy, timeless jacket intended to be worn for a long time. And especially with a coat, a long lifespan makes a significant difference.
GOTS, OCS Blended, and in-house production
The materials of the DENIZ carry the GOTS and OCS Blended labels. GOTS sets requirements for the processing of organic textiles and takes environmental and social conditions into account. OCS Blended verifies the proportion of organic material and its origin within the production chain.
LangerChen manufactures its outerwear in its own factory. This allows the brand to maintain oversight of the entire process, from design and material development to the final seam. LangerChen consciously chooses quality over quantity and produces exactly what is actually needed.
The fabrics are developed specifically for the brand, and the production is transparent and socially responsible. This makes DENIZ not only functional and beautiful, but also a jacket with a good and verifiable story.
Practical closure and spacious pockets
DENIZ closes with a zipper hidden behind a protective flap. The high front can be closed up well, keeping your neck out of the wind. You can, of course, wear it slightly more open when the weather behaves itself.
The large patch pockets with flaps offer plenty of space for your phone, keys, and other items. You can also easily slip your hands into the pockets from the side. Because, as far as we are concerned, a winter coat where you can't put your cold hands anywhere is just not finished.
Fit and sizing advice
DENIZ has a straight, comfortable fit and runs true to size. In principle, you should choose the size you normally wear. Rutger is 1.90 meters tall, weighs about 97 kilos, and is wearing size XL in the photos.
When choosing your size, consider what you want to wear underneath the jacket. Over a shirt, blouse, or thin sweater, you can simply choose your usual size. If you want to wear a thick wool sweater underneath in the depths of winter, check to ensure you have enough room around the chest, shoulders, and arms.
Is DENIZ suitable as a winter coat?
The organic wool retains heat, while the membrane prevents cold wind from easily passing through the fabric. The longer length, hood, high closure, and knitted inner cuffs give DENIZ more protection than the shorter LUCAN model.
The jacket does not have a thick padded lining. How warm it feels for you therefore depends on the weather, what you wear underneath, and how easily you get cold. It is very suitable for autumn, mild to normal winter days, and daily use. If you are extremely sensitive to the cold or will be standing still for long periods in severe frost, wear a warm wool layer underneath.
How to care for your DENIZ wool parka
Wash the jacket as little as possible. Wool does not absorb odors as quickly and does not need to be cleaned after every wear. Let DENIZ air out regularly and carefully brush off dry dirt with a soft clothing brush.
Has the jacket become wet? Hang it on a wide, sturdy hanger and let it dry slowly at room temperature. Do not put it on or against the heater and do not use a hairdryer. Direct heat can damage the wool, the shape, and the technical membrane.
Treat small stains locally if possible. Dab carefully with a clean, slightly damp cloth and do not rub hard. This could damage or felt the wool surface.
Is a full cleaning really necessary? Always check the wash label in the jacket first and follow it carefully. Only use a mild detergent suitable for wool and technical materials. Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or aggressive stain removers; these can degrade the wool, the membrane, and the water-repellent finish.
When in doubt, it is best to have DENIZ cleaned by a professional cleaner experienced with wool coats containing a membrane. Always mention that the jacket has a technical three-layer construction and a water-repellent finish.
