LANGERCHEN short wool men's jacket LUCAN
A short wool jacket that looks neat, but is actually just very practical. The LANGERCHEN LUCAN is inspired by classic uniform and worker jackets and features a straight, sporty silhouette. The patch pockets, collar, and sturdy Techno Felt fabric give it a rugged look, without making it seem like you're heading to a construction site.
The jacket is made from organic wool and organic cotton, with a thin PU membrane in between. This makes LUCAN windproof, breathable, and water-repellent. It can handle a light shower, but the seams are not taped. It remains a wool autumn and winter jacket, not a raincoat for voluntarily walking through a downpour for an hour.
We have LUCAN in two colors: BURGUNDY, a warm dark brown burgundy-like shade, and STEEL BLUE, a deep dark blue color.

A short wool jacket for every day
LUCAN has the look of a classic worker jacket, but crafted from warm wool and equipped with a protective membrane. This makes it smarter than a technical outdoor jacket and more practical than an ordinary wool jacket.
The short length makes it easy to wear with jeans, chinos, or dress trousers. It doesn't get in the way while cycling and is also comfortable in the car. You can easily wear it over a T-shirt or shirt, but there is also room for a sweater when it gets colder outside.
BURGUNDY or STEEL BLUE?
BURGUNDY is a warm, deep color that primarily looks dark brown in the photos, with a subtle burgundy undertone. A nice choice if you want something different from blue, black, or gray, but don't want to look like a traffic sign on the street.
STEEL BLUE is a deep dark blue shade. Classic, calm, and very easy to combine with denim, gray, beige, brown, and almost any color sweater already in your wardrobe.
The model and material construction are the same for both colors. So, all you have to do is decide if you're team warm brown or team dark blue. Difficult enough.
Three-layer Techno Felt
The special Techno Felt fabric is made up of three layers, each with its own function:
-
Outside: 100% organic wool for warmth and a beautiful, natural appearance
-
Middle layer: a thin PU membrane that blocks wind and provides protection against rain
-
Inside: organic cotton jersey that feels soft and comfortable
The textile fibers consist of a total of 85% organic wool and 15% organic cotton. In addition, the construction contains the thin PU membrane. Thanks to this combination, LUCAN feels like a wool jacket, but offers more protection against changeable weather than a classic wool jacket without a membrane.
What does the PU membrane do?
The membrane is a very thin layer that you cannot see, but it serves an important function. It blocks wind and helps prevent light rain from immediately soaking through the fabric. At the same time, heat and perspiration can escape. This makes LUCAN feel less stuffy than many fully sealed raincoats.
The seams are not taped. During prolonged or heavy rain, moisture can eventually enter through the stitching. The jacket can handle a normal shower just fine, but for a full day in pouring rain, we would still choose a proper raincoat. Honestly.
Why is there synthetic material in a sustainable wool jacket?
Polyurethane is a plastic and therefore not biodegradable. LangerChen uses it here specifically as a thin, functional middle layer because it protects the jacket against wind and rain. Furthermore, the water-repellent treatment on the outside is PFC-free.
That doesn't make the jacket free of environmental impact. Resources, energy, and transport are still required. However, you do get a sturdy, timeless garment that combines several functions and is intended to be worn for years. Durability counts heavily, especially with a jacket: the longer you wear it, the less often it needs to be replaced.
GOTS, OCS Blended, and in-house production
LUCAN's materials carry the GOTS and OCS Blended labels. GOTS sets requirements for the processing of organic textiles and considers both environmental and social conditions. OCS Blended verifies the share of organic material and its origin within the production chain.
LangerChen produces the outerwear in its own factory. This allows the brand to maintain oversight from design to the final seam. The principle is quality over mass: not producing huge quantities just because you can, but making exactly what is actually needed.
The fabrics used are also specially developed by LangerChen. The result is a jacket in which natural materials and technical protection come together, with an emphasis on transparency and socially responsible production.
Many practical pockets and well-thought-out details
The large patch pockets with flaps give LUCAN its rugged look and offer room for your phone, keys, and cold hands. Inside, there is also a lockable zipper pocket for items you would rather not lose while on the move.
The cuffs are adjustable, and the ventilation eyelets help dissipate excess heat. The horn buttons are finished with a subtle logo engraving. Small details, but exactly the details that make a jacket work in everyday use.
Fit and size advice
LUCAN fits true to size. So, generally, just choose the size you normally wear. Rutger is 1.90 meters tall, weighs about 97 kilos, and is wearing size XL in the photos.
When choosing your size, keep in mind what you want to wear under the jacket. If you wear it primarily over a shirt or thin sweater, you can choose your usual size. If you want to wear a thick wool sweater under it in winter, make sure you have enough room around the shoulders, chest, and arms.
Is LUCAN warm enough as a winter jacket?
The organic wool retains heat well, and the membrane prevents cold wind from easily cutting through the fabric. This makes LUCAN very suitable for autumn, mild winter days, and for people who like to work with layers.
How warm a jacket needs to be for you remains personal. LUCAN is a relatively short wool jacket and does not have a thick quilted lining. If you are someone who gets cold easily or if you stand still for long periods in severe frost, wear a warm wool sweater underneath or choose a longer, heavier winter model.
How to care for the LUCAN wool jacket
Wash the jacket as little as possible. Fortunately, wool does not need to be cleaned after every shower or wear. Let LUCAN air out regularly and carefully brush away dried dirt with a soft clothing brush.
After rain, hang the jacket in a well-ventilated area and let it dry slowly at room temperature. Do not place it against a heater and do not use a hair dryer: too much direct heat can damage the wool, the shape, and the technical middle layer.
Is a full cleaning necessary? Always check the care label in the jacket first and follow it strictly. Only use a mild detergent suitable for both wool and technical materials. Do not use fabric softener, bleach, or aggressive stain removers; these can damage the wool, the membrane, and the water-repellent finish.
If possible, treat a stain locally as soon as possible. Dab gently and do not rub hard, as this can felt or damage the wool surface. When in doubt, it is best to have the jacket cleaned by a professional cleaner with experience in wool jackets featuring a membrane.
