KOMODO organic cotton micro corduroy shirt OSCAR NAVY
A dark blue shirt boring? OSCAR clearly didn't get the memo. This micro corduroy shirt from KOMODO is made of 100% organic cotton and is full of details that you only really notice when you look a little closer. A chest pocket, an extra pocket at the bottom of the front, contrasting stitching and a fine rib structure: quiet enough to wear often, but definitely not standard.
The super-fine corduroy feels soft and supple and is lighter than the coarse corduroy you might know from trousers and jackets. This allows you to wear OSCAR as a shirt, but also open over a T-shirt as a light overshirt. We have it in two colours: NAVY and CHESTNUT.

The pockets make the difference
OSCAR does not have the usual two identical chest pockets that you see on many overshirts. On one side there is a spacious patch chest pocket. Lower down on the other front panel is an additional pocket construction, complete with a smaller compartment. Practical, but above all a very nice design detail.
That asymmetry makes the shirt playful without it becoming busy. The stitching around the pockets, shoulders and seams is slightly lighter in colour on the NAVY version and therefore subtly visible. It is precisely this small contrast that nicely highlights the lines of the shirt.
From a distance, you see a quiet dark blue shirt. Up close, all sorts of things are suddenly happening. Exactly our favourite form of 'not-boring': you don't have to shout to be interesting.
Microcorduroy: corduroy with a refined rib
OSCAR is made of 16-wale corduroy. ‘Wale’ refers to the number of ribs per inch. The higher the number, the finer the rib structure. With sixteen ribs per inch, this is a very fine microcorduroy, also known as needlecord.
This fine rib feels lighter and more supple than coarse corduroy. The fabric has the soft, velvety look of corduroy, but without the heavy feeling of thick winter trousers or a jacket. This means you can wear OSCAR almost all year round.
In autumn and winter, it is a great shirt under a cardigan or jacket. In spring and autumn, you can wear it open as a light overshirt. And on cooler summer days, it can simply be worn open over a T-shirt. One shirt, surprisingly many workable temperatures.
How does the OSCAR shirt fit?
OSCAR has a comfortable, fairly straight fit. The shirt fits relaxed, but not extremely oversized. In principle, choose your usual size for plenty of room to move and the fit as you see it in our photos.
The good-looking guy in our photos is 189 cm tall and wears size XL. XL is also his usual size. On him, the shirt sits neatly around the shoulders and chest, with enough room to move easily or wear a thin T-shirt underneath.
Do you want to wear OSCAR mainly open as an overshirt and have a thicker layer underneath? Then you could consider a size larger. If you prefer to wear it as a normal shirt and you are between two sizes, the smaller size may fit better. In doubt? Give us a call or come by to try it on in Rotterdam.
A shirt and a light overshirt
Buttoned up, you wear OSCAR as a neat but quirky shirt. The classic collar and fine microcord make it suitable for the office, a dinner or any other occasion where a T-shirt feels just a little too informal.
Worn open, it turns into a light overshirt. Combine it with a simple T-shirt, long-sleeve or thin turtleneck. The rounded hem and straight fit ensure that the shirt looks good both loose and partially tucked in.
Under a jacket, the fine fabric also takes up much less space than a coarse corduroy overshirt. So you get the soft structure and warm look of corduroy, but without the feeling that you are wearing three tops at the same time.
NAVY: dark blue with extra depth
NAVY is a deep, almost nocturnal shade of blue. Because of the fine rib structure, the colour changes subtly with the light. Sometimes the shirt looks almost solid dark blue, while from another angle you suddenly see the shine and fine channels in the fabric.
Combine OSCAR NAVY with denim, khaki, sand, grey or brown. In our photos, our model is wearing it with warm CHESTNUT-coloured corduroy trousers. Dark blue with copper brown is one of those combinations that can hardly go wrong.
If you want to keep it calm, wear it tone-on-tone with dark blue or black. For more contrast, a white, ecru, rust-coloured or brightly coloured T-shirt works well underneath.
NAVY or CHESTNUT?
NAVY is dark, calm and classic. The contrasting stitching and special pockets prevent the shirt from becoming plain. A good choice if you are looking for a versatile colour that works with almost every pair of trousers.
CHESTNUT is warmer and more distinct. This colour is between chestnut brown, golden brown and olive brown and gets a soft shine due to the microcord. Beautiful with denim, dark blue, ecru and various shades of green.
The model and all special details are the same for both colours. So you only have to choose between deep nocturnal NAVY and warm CHESTNUT. Or you decide that two colours do not make a collection but just a sensible basic wardrobe. We won't judge.
Corozo buttons
OSCAR closes with corozo buttons. Corozo is a hard plant-based material made from the nut of the tagua palm. It is also known as vegetable ivory because of its solid, smooth structure.
The buttons are subtly matched to the colour of the shirt. This means the rib structure, pockets and stitching remain the most important design details.
Organic cotton and vegan
OSCAR is made from 100% organic cotton and is completely vegan. The shirt is produced in a SEDEX-audited factory. SEDEX is a system used to monitor working conditions, health, safety and business management within the production chain.
Organic cotton also has an impact, of course. Producing, dyeing and transporting clothing still requires water, energy, raw materials and labour. That is why we think it is important that a garment is versatile and can be worn often. You can use OSCAR as a shirt, overshirt and extra layer, and that already helps quite a bit.
How to keep microcorduroy looking beautiful
Only wash OSCAR when really necessary. A quick airing is often enough. Does the shirt really need to go into the washing machine? Then turn it inside out, close the buttons and choose a gentle cycle at a maximum of 30 degrees. Use a small amount of mild detergent and wash with similar dark colours.
Take OSCAR out of the washing machine immediately afterwards, shake it out gently and hang it up to dry in shape. Preferably do not put it in the dryer. This will keep the colour, fit and fine rib structure looking good for longer.
Do you want to iron the shirt? Do so inside out at a low temperature. Do not press the iron hard onto the fabric, as this can flatten the fine ribs. Often, hanging it up to air is enough. Always check the sewn-in care label just to be sure.
Frequently asked questions about OSCAR
Is OSCAR a shirt or an overshirt?
Both work. The fine microcord is supple enough to wear OSCAR buttoned up as a shirt. Open over a T-shirt, it also works very well as a light overshirt.
How does the OSCAR shirt fit?
OSCAR has a comfortable, fairly straight fit. In principle, choose your usual size. The style is not tight, but not extremely oversized either.
What size is the model wearing?
The good-looking guy in our photos is 189 cm tall and wears size XL. XL is also his usual size.
What is microcorduroy?
Microcorduroy is corduroy with very fine ribs. OSCAR is made of 16-wale corduroy, which means the fabric has sixteen ribs per inch. This makes it feel lighter and more supple than coarse corduroy.
Does the shirt have multiple pockets?
Yes. OSCAR has a patch chest pocket and an extra double pocket lower down on the other front panel. The asymmetrical placement makes the design extra special.
Which colours are available?
We have OSCAR in NAVY, a deep dark blue colour, and CHESTNUT, a warm golden to chestnut brown shade.
Is there stretch in the shirt?
No. OSCAR is made of 100% organic cotton and does not contain elastane. The fabric does gradually become more supple with wear.
