ANGEL Organic boiled wool shirt JADE

Let me say it straight away: the colour JADE has something magical. Not loud, not too formal, but it has that "hey, that looks surprisingly good" effect. This shirt – or overshirt, whatever you prefer to call it – is exactly why I'm so happy that Engel is now making outerwear. Once started as Germany's most sensible underwear brand, now suddenly serving up trendy wool shirts. And honestly... they do it better than many fashion brands.

Why this JADE overshirt is so great

The fabric is 100% organic boiled wool (walk fabric). This means the wool is slightly felted, making the material sturdier without it feeling like you're living in a log cabin. Warm? Yes. Sweaty? No. It wears light but provides that lovely, cosy layer you look for on chilly days.

Rutger (our regular “can I wear this?” tester) prefers to wear it open with a shirt underneath, but it works just as well closed as a shirt. Unisex, super practical, and most importantly: JADE looks good on almost everyone. Even men who never wear anything but black suddenly say: “Oh… this is actually really nice.”

Fit & styling

It fits true to size and has just enough room for layering without making you look like a marshmallow. The wooden buttons keep it rugged and natural. Combine JADE with jeans, black chinos, brown boots, or – my personal favourite – with a warm rust-coloured T-shirt underneath. Sounds crazy, looks amazing.

Material & care

Pure, organic wool rarely needs washing. Truly. Just hang it outside and that's it. Should you still be tempted to put this beautiful piece in the machine: do it on a wool cycle and use a wool detergent with lanolin.

My favourite? Lanalicious. Lanolin in, lanolin kept in – this is how your overshirt stays supple, soft, and happy. And you too.

Pilling? Don't panic.

Wool can pill, especially if you wear it often (which you will). The solution is simple: the Gleener. Safe, fast, and your shirt looks like new again. You can find it here.

Washing advice

Don't wash it too often (seriously, don't). Use little detergent, don't overload the machine, remove it immediately after the cycle, and lay flat to dry. You can watch extra tips in this video. But also read our washing guide, which you receive with every purchase, carefully.

1. Is JADE unisex?
Yes, absolutely. Looks fantastic on both men and women.

2. How warm is this shirt?
Warm enough for outdoors on fresh days, great as an indoor layer in winter.

3. Is it itchy?
Boiled wool is sturdy but surprisingly soft. Most people wear it comfortably against the skin or with a shirt underneath.

4. How does the size fit?
True to size. Do you want to wear it as a jacket? Then you can choose one size up.

5. Do I need to treat boiled wool differently?
No, just follow the wool rules: do not wash hot, do not wring, do not deep-fry (just kidding).
