This is one of those basics you only realize how useful it is when it’s always at the top of your pile. The TRANQUILLO CAROL is a form-fitting turtleneck with a fine ribbed structure, a high neck, and exactly that understated look that makes it possible to wear under absolutely anything.
And take a good look at the fabric: the vertical rib makes this so much more interesting than a simple shirt. The CAROL follows your body’s lines beautifully, without any unnecessary fuss. Wear it under a cardigan, blazer, dress, or sweater, or just with a nice pair of wide-leg trousers. Truly a wonderful basic.

What kind of top is the TRANQUILLO CAROL?
The CAROL is a form-fitting women's turtleneck with long sleeves. Or, actually, we think 'ribbed shirt with a high neck' might be a better description, because don't expect a thick, chunky winter sweater here.
The material is relatively fine and supple, following the body. The vertical rib gives the fabric structure and makes the top just a little more exciting. The small mock neck fits nicely without creating a huge bulk of fabric around your neck.
At the hem and cuffs, the rib has a subtle wavy edge. It's a small detail, but one that makes it nice enough to wear on its own.
How does the TRANQUILLO CAROL fit?
The CAROL has a slim fit and is intended to be form-fitting. The ribbed fabric follows your body and emphasizes your silhouette.
Are you looking for a loose-fitting turtleneck? Then this is not the model you're looking for. But if you want a fine, feminine top that you can easily wear under other layers without everything feeling bulky, that's exactly why the CAROL is so useful.
Is the CAROL a thick turtleneck?
No. And that’s actually its greatest strength. This isn't a thick winter turtleneck, but a fine-knit ribbed top with a high neck. This allows you to wear it for much longer throughout the year and makes it much easier to combine.
In the autumn, you can just wear it as is. When it gets colder, you can add a cardigan, blazer, or wool sweater over it. And we especially love seeing that little turtleneck peeking out from under a sweater with a wider neckline.
What is EcoVero™ viscose?
The majority of the CAROL consists of viscose in a soft EcoVero™ quality. EcoVero™ is a viscose fiber from Lenzing made from wood sourced from controlled and certified origins, developed with a lower environmental impact than conventional viscose.
For you as a wearer, this is what matters most: the fabric feels soft, supple, and comfortable and drapes beautifully along the body.
20% nylon has been added to the viscose. This gives the fine rib quality extra elasticity, shape retention, and durability. The CAROL is consciously not a 100% natural top – we prefer to be clear about that.
How do you combine a black turtleneck?
The question is almost: what can’t you combine it with?
The black CAROL is that kind of basic piece that makes a closet full of other clothes suddenly easier to manage. Tuck it into wide-leg trousers, wear it with denim, or combine it with a skirt. Under a blazer, it looks sleek and chic; under a wool cardigan, it’s nice and comfortable.
And under a dress or blouse, such a thin black turtleneck can suddenly ensure you wear a summery piece for much longer.
BLACK or RASPBERRY: which color do you choose?
BLACK is, of course, the champion of versatility. Understated, chic, and practical. If you're looking for one CAROL that can go under absolutely anything, we would start with black.
But that raspberry color... it's just really lovely. Bright without being loud, and beautiful with denim, dark brown, burgundy, gray, black, and ecru. It's the same easy shirt, but suddenly the centerpiece of your outfit.
Or do what we would probably do: one practical and one fun. Problem solved.
Is this ribbed turtleneck suitable for layering?
Yes, absolutely. That is actually what the CAROL is perfect for. Because the top is form-fitting and not thick, you won't get a huge amount of bulk under your sweater or cardigan.
Wear it, for example:
- under a wool cardigan;
- under a blazer;
- under a sweater vest;
- under a blouse that you leave slightly open;
- under a dress;
- or just solo with jeans or wide-leg trousers.
It’s the kind of garment you don't have to think twice about in the morning. And as far as we're concerned, you can never have enough of those.
How do you wash the TRANQUILLO CAROL?
Wash the CAROL cold on a delicate cycle and treat the fine ribbed structure with a bit of care. Do not bleach and do not tumble dry.
Let the top air dry after washing and gently reshape it. Ironing is allowed if necessary at a low temperature of no more than 110°C. TRANQUILLO advises against dry cleaning the top.
Why is the CAROL such a great basic?
Because a good basic doesn't have to be boring at all. The fine rib, form-fitting cut, and small high neck give this black top just enough character, while remaining understated enough to combine endlessly.
You wear it on its own, use it as an extra layer as soon as it gets colder, and then pull it out of your closet again three days later because it just happens to look perfect under that other cardigan too.
CAROL isn't the garment that shouts for attention the loudest. But it is one that makes you think afterwards: I wish I had bought this sooner.
