THINKING MU wool sweater MATTI PIXEL made of extra-fine merino
THINKING MU officially calls it the Matgi. We simply call it Matti. That’s a lot easier to say, and besides, he looks quite like a Matti in the photo. So, welcome Matti.
The MATTI PIXEL is a colorful men's wool sweater made of 100% extra-fine wool, featuring a graphic jacquard pattern. Dark blue, cobalt blue, rusty orange, brick red, brown, gray, and charcoal crisscross each other. It looks a bit like a digital collage or a painting built from large pixels.
Despite all the colors, the sweater is surprisingly easy to combine. The dark base keeps it calm, while the orange, blue, and red patches ensure it’s definitely not a run-of-the-mill sweater. For men who want to wear some color, but don’t necessarily want to go through life as a walking confetti cannon.

A wool sweater like an abstract work of art
The pattern of the MATTI consists of large geometric color blocks, angular lines, and shapes that interlock. Some forms look like arrows, others like pixels, stairs, or parts of an abstract painting. The longer you look, the more you see. A kind of puzzle, but a warm one.
The colors are carefully distributed across the sweater. Dark blue, black, and charcoal form a calm base. Rusty orange, warm brown, bright blue, and dark red provide contrast. The design continues over the front, sleeves, and back, keeping the sweater interesting from every angle.
The crew neck, cuffs, and hem are finished with a wide dark ribbed knit. This gives the busy design a clear frame and ensures the sweater maintains its shape well.
Jacquard: knitted instead of printed
The graphic design is executed in jacquard. This means that the various colors and shapes are incorporated into the sweater during the knitting process. The pattern is not a print layer on top of the fabric, but is part of the knit itself.
Up close, you can see beautifully how the different colored yarns interlock. This gives the surface extra depth and a lively structure. The colors do not feel smooth or printed: you can really see and feel the knitwork.
A jacquard pattern does require a bit of care while wearing. Be careful with sharp zippers, protruding buckles, rough bags, and jewelry that the yarn can snag on. After all, preventing a snag is easier than having to use a darning needle later.
Made of extra-fine wool
The MATTI is made of 100% extra-fine wool. The fine wool fibers feel more supple and softer than many coarser wool types. As a result, you get the warmth and natural properties of wool, without the stiff feeling of the scratchy sweater that used to be mandatory for school camp.
Wool traps air between the fibers, helping to regulate your body temperature. The sweater provides pleasant warmth when it's cold, while wool can also absorb and release moisture. This often makes a good wool sweater feel less clammy than a fully synthetic one.
How wool feels on the skin remains a personal matter. This extra-fine wool is soft, but if you are particularly sensitive to wool, wear the MATTI over a T-shirt, longsleeve, or thin wool-silk undershirt. Of course, you can also come and try it on and feel it for yourself at our shop in Rotterdam.
Fit and size advice
According to THINKING MU, the MATTI PIXEL has a regular fit and a normal length. It falls straight along the body without being tight and without being an overtly oversized model.
In the photo, the model is 188 cm tall and is wearing a size M. The sweater falls nicely at the hips and has enough room around the chest, shoulders, and arms.
Dimensions for size M
- Total length: 66 cm
- Chest width, measured flat: 56 cm
- Back width: 45 cm
- Sleeve length: 63 cm
You can compare these measurements with a well-fitting sweater you already have in your closet. Lay that sweater flat and measure it without pulling on the material. The chest width and total length, in particular, provide a good initial indication.
If you want to wear the MATTI like the model in the photo, choose your usual size in principle. If you are between two sizes, have broad shoulders, or like to wear a shirt under your wool sweater, then the larger size might be more comfortable. After all, THINKING MU remains a Spanish brand; centimeters there sometimes take up a little less space than we Dutch people expect.
How to style the MATTI PIXEL
Because there are so many colors in the pattern, you can combine this sweater with a surprising number of pants. The easiest choice is a calm, solid-colored trouser that repeats one of the dark tones from the design.
-
With dark blue: combine it with dark blue jeans or trousers for a calm base.
-
With black: black jeans make the design extra powerful and modern.
-
With gray: charcoal or medium gray ties in nicely with the dark areas in the pattern.
-
With corduroy: choose dark brown, rust brown, or olive green for a warm autumn combination.
-
With a white T-shirt: let a small white edge be visible at the crew neck, as shown in the product photo.
The sweater itself already has more than enough to say. So feel free to keep the rest of your outfit simple. Dark pants, good shoes, and you're done. Matti does the rest.
Designed and made in Spain
The MATTI PIXEL is designed in Barcelona. According to THINKING MU, the production of the material, the dyeing, and the final manufacturing of the sweater also take place in Spain.
We find that relevant information, but we don't make a fairy tale out of it. Even clothing produced in Europe uses raw materials, water, energy, and transportation. The added value here lies in the combination of a natural material, a local production chain within Spain, a distinctive design, and a sweater that you will hopefully enjoy wearing for years.
You don't have to wash wool after every wear
A wool sweater needs to be washed much less often than many people think. After wearing, first hang the MATTI out for a while, preferably outside or by an open window. Often, airing is enough to freshen up the sweater.
Washing less is better for the wool, the jacquard knit, and the colors. Moreover, you reduce the chance of shrinking, felting, and unnecessary wear. Not everything that has been worn needs an immediate deep cleaning.
How to wash the MATTI PIXEL
THINKING MU advises washing this sweater inside out by hand in cold water. Use a small amount of Lanalicious wool detergent with lanolin. Lanalicious has been specially developed for the care of woolen clothing and helps keep the wool soft and supple.
- Only wash the sweater when absolutely necessary.
- Wash it inside out.
- Use cold water.
- Use a small amount of Lanalicious wool detergent with lanolin.
- Do not soak the sweater for long.
- Do not scrub, wring, or rub hard.
- Do not use bleach.
- Rinse with water of about the same temperature.
- Gently press the water out of the sweater.
- Roll it in a towel if necessary to absorb extra moisture.
- Gently reshape the sweater.
- Let it dry flat and in the shade.
- Do not tumble dry.
- Only iron inside out and at a low temperature.
- Preferably store the sweater flat.
Do not use regular detergent for white or colored laundry and no fabric softener. Those products are not developed for the structure of wool fibers. With Lanalicious wool detergent, you have a mild wool detergent with lanolin at home. And that makes Matti a lot happier.
Pilling in wool
With natural wool, small pills or balls can form due to wearing and friction. You see this especially under the arms, along the sides, and in places where a coat, bag, or seatbelt frequently rubs against it.
Pilling does not automatically mean that a sweater is of poor quality. They are loose fibers that come to the surface due to movement and form small balls there. A new wool sweater, in particular, can shed some extra loose fibers at the beginning.
With the Gleener fabric shaver, you can carefully remove these pills. Lay the sweater flat, choose the appropriate attachment, and move gently over the knit without pressing hard. With this colorful jacquard knit, always test on an inconspicuous spot first.
Avoid using a loose razor blade. One wrong move and the pixel pattern suddenly gets an extra black hole. Modern art perhaps, but not the intention.
