The BOLITA AUTUMN by THINKING MU is officially a men's sweater, but as far as we're concerned, it's just a great unisex piece. That’s why we’ve specifically stocked it from XS through XXL. How does the THINKING MU BOLITA AUTUMN fit?
The BOLITA was originally designed as a men’s model and has a relaxed fit. Men can therefore simply choose their usual size.
For women, we recommend one size smaller than you usually wear. For example, if you normally wear a size M, we would suggest going for an S in this sweater. If you prefer to wear it nice and loose or oversized, you can, of course, just choose your normal size.
Is this merino wool sweater suitable for both women and men?
Absolutely. We actually think it’s fantastic for both. The straight, slightly looser shape works very well as a unisex fit, and as far as we’re concerned, the colors aren’t gender-specific at all.
That is why we deliberately stocked XS and XXL as well. This way, both women and men have more choice in how they want to wear the BOLITA.
Does extra-fine merino wool itch?
Merino wool consists of much finer fibers than the coarser wool people often associate with an "itchy sweater." And extra-fine merino wool is even finer. This makes the BOLITA feel remarkably soft and supple against the skin.
If you are extremely sensitive to wool, that remains a personal matter, of course. But this is definitely not a stiff, old-fashioned wool sweater. On the contrary: this is one where you will likely find yourself checking the label in disbelief to see if it’s truly 100% wool.
What does mulesing-free merino wool mean?
The merino wool used for this sweater is mulesing-free. This means that the sheep have not been subjected to mulesing, a procedure where skin around the sheep's hindquarters is removed to prevent problems with flystrike.
That is important to us: if we choose wool, we want to take a critical look at how that wool is produced.
Why is it important that this wool sweater is non-superwash?
The BOLITA has had no superwash treatment. With superwash, wool is treated to make it easier to machine wash and less prone to felting. To achieve this, the natural structure of the wool fiber is altered.
We prefer to choose wool that has retained its natural properties as much as possible. That might require a little more care when washing, but you get beautiful, pure wool in return.
How do you wash the THINKING MU BOLITA wool sweater?
As little as possible! Wool has natural self-cleaning properties and really doesn't need to go into the washing machine after just a few wears. Hang the sweater outside or by an open window, and it will often be completely fresh again.
Does it need to be washed? Use a suitable wool wash program at a low temperature, without aggressive spinning, and a special wool detergent. Never use fabric softener, and definitely do not put wool in the dryer.
We personally like to use Lanalicious wool detergent with lanolin. After washing, let the sweater dry flat in its original shape.
Wool can start to pill over time due to wear and friction. That is normal and does not say anything about the quality of the wool. With a Gleener fabric shaver, you can gently remove loose pills, and your sweater will look beautiful again.

Only if your washing machine has a reliable wool cycle and you follow the wash label. In any case, washing wool is rarely necessary: airing it out is usually your best friend.
