MADNESS wool dress MIES DARK BLUE organic wool and cotton

This was one of those dresses that we thought on the hanger: meh… let’s see. And then I put it on. Okay. Retracted. Because it turns out MIES is actually an absolutely amazing wool dress. Sometimes you just have to see clothes on. This is one of those.

The MIES by MADNESS is made of a beautiful blend of organic wool and organic cotton – the same material as the SOFIE sweater – and has a stunning deep dark blue color. The dress is simple, but definitely not boring. In particular, the slightly wider, almost batwing-like sleeves give it that little bit extra.

What makes the MADNESS MIES dress so lovely?

It is mainly the combination of the material and the design. MIES has a calm, fairly straight line, a stand-up collar, and unique sleeves that are looser at the shoulders and upper arms and narrow towards the wrists.

Because of this, it fits very differently than a standard knit dress. It is comfortable, doesn't accentuate too much, and looks perfectly polished at the same time.

How does the MADNESS MIES dress fit?

Just choose your own size for this dress. I am wearing a size 42 in the photo and I am 1.75 meters tall. As you can see in the photos, the dress hits around my knee.

The dress is not tight against the body, but it isn't huge and oversized either. The extra space is mainly at the top due to the unique sleeve insertion. That gives MIES that nice, casual shape.

How long is the MIES dress?

I am 1.75 meters tall and for me, MIES falls about to the knee. If you are a bit shorter, it will naturally fall a bit longer; if you are taller, it will be a bit higher. Be sure to take a look at the photos to get a good impression of the length and fit.

Is MIES a warm winter dress?

Because of the combination of wool and cotton, this is definitely a great dress for the colder months. Wool helps regulate your body temperature, and cotton gives the knit a different, slightly firmer character.

And we think this type of dress is ideal in winter: pull on one piece of clothing and you are basically ready to go. Tights or leggings underneath, boots on, and off you go.

How do you style a dark blue wool dress?

Actually, you can go in any direction with this color. With a nice boot and jewelry, MIES can easily look smart, but with thick tights and sneakers or boots, it becomes wonderfully casual.

And Dark Blue is one of those colors that goes with absolutely everything. Bright earrings, a colored scarf, or one of our glitter brooches if you want to make it a bit more special. But honestly, this dress doesn't need much.

How do you wash the MADNESS MIES wool dress?

As far as we are concerned, the rule for wool is always: wash as little as possible. Wool naturally has dirt- and odor-repellent properties, so airing it out is often enough.

Does MIES need to be washed anyway? Always follow the care label and use a suitable wool wash program or wash it carefully by hand. Use a special wool detergent, such as Lanalicious wool detergent, and avoid large temperature differences, rubbing, and wringing.

Then let the dress dry flat in shape. It is better not to hang a wet knit dress on a hanger, because the weight of the water can cause the material to stretch.

Can wool pill?

Yes, even with a good wool dress, some pilling can occur over time in areas where there is a lot of friction. That is part of natural wool fibers and says nothing about the quality of the garment.

Do you see any fuzz? You can easily remove it with our Gleener fabric shaver. This way, your dress will look beautiful for much longer.

Why are we so enthusiastic about MIES in the end?

Because it completely fooled us. On the hanger: meh. On: YES! The unique sleeves, the simple design, that beautiful dark blue color, and the lovely blend of organic wool and cotton only really come into their own when you put it on.

So you see: you just have to give some garments a chance. MIES is definitely one of them.
