This is one of those garments that is truly versatile. The ELINE by MADNESS sits somewhere between a sweater vest and a cardigan: sleeveless, beautifully fine-knit, and featuring a row of small buttons down the front. And in that fantastic bright blue. That just makes us very happy.

ELINE is made from the same fine blend of organic wool and organic cotton as the SOFIE sweater. This gives you the warmth and pleasant feel of wool, but the cardigan feels lighter than it would if it were made entirely of wool. An ideal layering piece, in other words.

Why is the MADNESS ELINE so great?

Mainly because it is so incredibly versatile. In the photos, I am wearing ELINE over a printed turtleneck by MADNESS, and it is perfect for that: the calm blue makes such a print pop beautifully.

But wear it over a plain long-sleeve, blouse, or wool camisole and you get a completely different outfit. And on a warmer day? Then I would definitely wear it without anything underneath as a sleeveless knitted top. That is precisely why you can reach for ELINE almost all year round.

How do you style a wool sweater vest?

Well, in endless ways. ;-) With a printed turtleneck like I'm doing here, with a blouse with a nice collar, a plain long-sleeve, or a thin wool shirt. It also looks great with a skirt or just nice and simple with jeans.

And don't forget that you can also wear it as a top. ELINE is much more refined than those thick, classic wool sweater vests. Without anything underneath, add some jeans or wide-leg trousers, and you're all set.

Why wool and cotton?

We really love this material blend. Wool helps regulate your body temperature and provides warmth, while cotton makes the knit a bit lighter and sturdier. This makes ELINE a great alternative if you find a fully wool garment gets too warm too quickly.

How do you wash the MADNESS ELINE?

Above all, do not wash it more often than necessary. Wool has natural self-cleaning properties, and airing it out is often enough.

Does ELINE need a wash after all? Wash it on a cold wool cycle with a suitable wool detergent, such as our Lanalicious wool detergent. Do not wring it out, and after washing, let it dry flat in shape. This keeps the knit looking its best.

What should you do if the cardigan starts to pill?

With natural fibers, some pilling can occur over time due to friction. This is not a sign of poor quality but is inherent to wearing natural yarns. You can easily remove those pills with our Gleener fabric shaver to make your cardigan look neat again.
