This is one where the color and the knit basically do all the work. The MAUD by MADNESS is a beautiful cable-knit sweater in an intense blue shade, featuring various knitting patterns on the front and along the sleeves. It is this mix of cables and texture that makes it very special, without it ever looking busy.
The sweater is made of 83% organic cotton and 17% alpaca. This makes it feel soft and comfortable, but it isn't as heavy or warm as a fully wool sweater. It really is that perfect intermediate option for those who want warmth but don't want a massive woolen unit on their body.
Why is the MADNESS MAUD such a great sweater?
Because it has just that little bit extra. Not a standard smooth knit, but a beautifully crafted cable pattern on the front, texture on the sleeves, and a quiet back. This makes it look rich and luxurious, while you can simply pull it on over your favorite jeans.
- 80% organic cotton
- 20% alpaca
- GOTS-certified
- Beautiful cable and texture knit
- Round neckline
- Relaxed fit
- Only available in this intense blue color
- Soft, warm, and yet airier than a fully wool sweater
How does the MADNESS MAUD fit?
The MAUD fits fairly generously. It has a relaxed silhouette with raglan-like shoulders and plenty of room around the body, without immediately being overly oversized.
If you want to wear it like in the photos, you can basically choose your own size. If you prefer a more fitted look, you can try a size smaller.
What makes the fabric special?
The combination of organic cotton and alpaca gives the MAUD a very fine balance. The cotton provides durability and breathability, while the alpaca adds softness and warmth.
And do take a close look at the knit. The front has multiple cable and relief patterns side by side. This gives the fabric a lot of depth and makes the sweater look much more luxurious than a standard knit sweater.
How do you style this blue cable-knit sweater?
Quite easily, actually. Because of that bright blue color, the MAUD has enough presence on its own. Pair it with jeans and you're done. But it also looks wonderful with dark blue, gray, ecru, camel, or even a skirt.
We ourselves would also love it with a blouse collar underneath or one of our brooches on it. Precisely because the sweater itself has such a beautiful classic cable structure, it is easy to pair it with something playful.
Can alpaca pill?
Yes, it can. And that is part of a natural soft fiber like alpaca. Due to friction, small fuzz or pills may appear over time, especially in areas where the arms move along the body.
That is why we think a Gleener is truly indispensable for alpaca. Do not pick at loose fibers, as that will just pull new fibers loose. With the Gleener, you remove pilling much more in a controlled way.
How do you wash a sweater with alpaca?
Preferably as little as possible. Simply airing it out outside often works wonders and is much better for your sweater than constantly washing it.
Does it have to be washed? For alpaca, always use a suitable detergent without lanolin, such as our Washpaca for alpaca. Wash cold or on a suitable wool cycle, do not wring, and then lay the sweater flat to dry in shape.
Preferably do not use wool detergent with added lanolin for alpaca. Alpaca naturally contains almost no lanolin and therefore requires different care than classic sheep's wool.
