What actually is flannel?
Flannel isn’t a specific fiber, but rather a way a fabric is finished. For this RUTE, the organic cotton is lightly brushed, making the surface feel softer and a bit warmer than a regular cotton shirt.
And you really feel that difference. Flannel has a cozy quality without you having to wear a thick sweater. That is exactly why these are the kind of shirts that suddenly come out of the closet very often in the autumn.
How does the DEDICATED RUTE shirt fit?
The RUTE has a relaxed fit. It hangs nicely loose around the body and is roomier than a tight classic shirt. That also makes it very nice to wear open over a T-shirt.
In principle, you can choose your own size if you like that relaxed fit. If you want to wear it straighter and less roomy, you could try a size smaller.

What is the difference between BOLD and MADRAS?
The fit and material are the same; the difference is mainly in the plaid.
BOLD has large blocks in deep shades like burgundy, plum, mustard, olive green, and dark green. A sturdy, graphic plaid that stands out immediately.
MADRAS has a finer check with warm red, rust, purple, and mustard tones, with a fresh blue line running through it here and there. More classic in terms of pattern, but by no means boring because of the colors.
And yes: we also have a women’s version of that MADRAS. Very annoying for anyone who likes to steal each other’s clothes ;-)
How do you style a plaid flannel shirt?
These types of shirts are wonderfully easy. Just wear the RUTE buttoned up with jeans or corduroy trousers, or open over a basic T-shirt. With dark blue or brown trousers, it becomes a bit more subdued, while denim keeps it nice and casual.
And when it gets colder? Then this is also a perfect layer under a cardigan or jacket. Flannel is great precisely because it provides a bit more warmth than a thin cotton shirt, without being heavy.
What material is the RUTE shirt made of?
Of 100% organic cotton. The cotton is GOTS-certified and processed into soft brushed flannel.
That means no polyester or other synthetic additives: just cotton, but with that wonderfully soft flannel finish.
How do you wash an organic cotton flannel shirt?
Try not to wash the RUTE any warmer than necessary. 30 degrees is more than enough. Wash it inside out, with similar colors, and with a small amount of detergent.
It is best not to use fabric softener and do not put the shirt in the dryer. Heat and a lot of mechanical movement can make cotton shrink faster and ensure that the soft flannel structure stays less beautiful.
Take it out of the machine immediately after washing, shake it out, and carefully pull it into shape before letting it dry. You will also find extra tips in our laundry guide that you get with every order.
Is the DEDICATED RUTE shirt sustainably produced?
The RUTE is made of GOTS-certified organic cotton. DEDICATED has been consciously choosing certified materials and fairer production for years.
But we find at least as important: this is not a shirt that you wear for one season just because a plaid happens to be in fashion. A good flannel shirt can be combined for years to come. And that, in the end, is exactly how clothing becomes most sustainable: by wearing it very often.

Does the DEDICATED RUTE shirt run large?
The model has a relaxed fit and is therefore intentionally a bit roomier. Choose your regular size for that loose look. If you want to wear it tighter, you can possibly try a size smaller.
Is the RUTE shirt warm?
Flannel feels warmer than a regular cotton shirt because the fabric has been brushed. It’s not a thick winter sweater, but it is wonderful for autumn, winter, and cool spring days.
Is flannel always made of wool?
No. Flannel says something about the finish of the fabric, not about the fiber. This RUTE is made of 100% organic cotton.
What is the difference between the BOLD and MADRAS versions?
Only the plaid pattern differs. BOLD has larger color blocks, MADRAS a finer and somewhat more vibrant check. Material and fit are the same.
Is the MADRAS plaid also available for women?
Yes. We have the same great MADRAS print in a women’s model as well. Only fair.
Can I wear this shirt open?
Absolutely. Precisely because of the relaxed fit, the RUTE is very suitable to be worn as a light overshirt layer over a T-shirt.
