A lined wool hat that doesn't itch
Baby alpaca is exceptionally soft by nature, but with the CHIMU, the wool doesn't come into direct contact with your head. The inside is fully lined with a soft cotton fleece. This is not only wonderfully warm but also very pleasant if you have sensitive skin or find regular wool hats itchy.
The cotton lining also provides extra protection against cold wind. The hat fits snugly and covers your ears and forehead. No drafty gaps and no hat that slowly moves to the top of your head while walking.
The fit is also comfortable for glasses wearers. The hat fits snugly without pressing unnecessarily hard against the frames of your glasses. Glasses on, hat on, and head outside. Sometimes it can be that simple.
Which size CHIMU hat do I need?
The APU KUNTUR CHIMU is available in two sizes:
-
Size M: for a head circumference of approximately 56 to 58 cm
-
Size L: for a head circumference of approximately 58 to 61 cm
You can measure your head circumference by placing a measuring tape around the widest part of your head, about one centimetre above your eyebrows and just above your ears. Keep the tape measure snug, but do not pull it tight.
Are you exactly between two sizes? Think about how you like to wear a hat. Choose size M if you prefer a slightly snugger fit. Size L provides a bit more room. Still in doubt? Feel free to call or email us, and we will be happy to help you decide.
Why is baby alpaca so warm?
Baby alpaca is among the finest and most luxurious alpaca fibres. The name primarily refers to the fineness of the fibre and does not automatically mean the wool comes exclusively from young alpacas.
The fibres are light and contain small air pockets that can retain body heat effectively. At the same time, alpaca remains breathable and temperature-regulating. As a result, the CHIMU hat feels wonderfully warm without becoming heavy or stifling.
Alpaca wool naturally contains no lanolin and is often perceived as comfortable by people who are sensitive to regular wool. Because this hat is also fully lined with cotton, the alpaca wool barely touches your skin. While we can never promise that no skin will react to anything, this is absolutely a great hat to try for sensitive heads.
APU KUNTUR accessories to combine
Natur-el has various baby alpaca hats, scarves, wrist warmers and sweaters in its collection. We carefully select the colours ourselves so that the various accessories can be beautifully combined with each other.
The blue, green and petrol shades of CHIMU match beautifully with a solid-coloured alpaca scarf, but also with a colourful jacquard pattern that features the same shades. This way, you can put together a calm set or mix and match different prints and colours.
And yes, a baby alpaca hat and scarf naturally make a great gift. Practical, special and much nicer than another scented candle. Although there is a good chance you will want to keep them for yourself after feeling them.
Fairly made in Peru
APU KUNTUR originates from Germany and has its collection made under fair conditions in Peru. The products are manufactured according to Fair Trade standards, with attention to the material, the makers and the local craftsmanship.
In Peru, there is a long tradition of working with alpaca wool. That knowledge is reflected in the sophisticated jacquard knit, the balanced colours and the neat finish. This is not a hat you throw away after one season, but an accessory intended to be worn for years.
How to wash a baby alpaca hat?
Preferably not at all. Airing it outside or hanging it in the bathroom is usually sufficient. Alpaca barely absorbs odours and therefore freshens up easily on its own.
Do you still want to wash the CHIMU? Do so carefully by hand or use only a wool wash programme if the wash label allows it. Use cold water or a maximum of 30 degrees and a small amount of special alpaca detergent, such as Washpaca. Alpaca contains no lanolin naturally and therefore does not require detergent with added lanolin.
Do not wring, do not spin-dry and do not put it in the tumble dryer. Gently squeeze the water out of the hat, reshape it and let it dry flat. Do not use hot water, as the cotton lining may shrink.
Frequently asked questions about the CHIMU beanie
Is the APU KUNTUR CHIMU windproof?
The cotton fleece lining provides significantly more protection against wind than an unlined knitted hat. We prefer to call it wind-resistant rather than completely windproof, as it is not a technical membrane.
Is this hat suitable for women and men?
Yes, the CHIMU has a unisex model and can be worn by both women and men.
Is the hat suitable for sensitive skin?
The soft cotton lining lies directly against your head and prevents the alpaca wool from rubbing against the skin. This makes the hat very comfortable for people who find regular wool hats itchy.
Which size should I choose?
Size M is suitable for a head circumference of approximately 56 to 58 cm. Size L is intended for a head circumference of approximately 58 to 61 cm.
Can I wear the CHIMU with glasses?
Yes. The snug but comfortable fit also makes this hat suitable for glasses wearers.
