LIVING CRAFTS wool scarf 100% wool MULTI PLAIDS
Some scarves are strictly practical. You put them on because it’s cold and take them off as soon as you are indoors. And then there’s this one. MULTI PLAIDS is the kind of scarf that completes your outfit, brightens up your coat, and is large enough to secretly use as a blanket at the office. Now that is something we love.
The scarf is made from 100% pure wool and features a colorful plaid design with a soft, watercolor-like appearance. Mustard yellow, rust red, olive green, purple, petrol, blue-gray, and cream blend together beautifully. It’s definitely colorful, but because the shades are all slightly muted, it never looks loud.

A scarf with a wealth of color and endless possibilities
MULTI PLAIDS doesn’t have a single primary color that dictates what you have to wear it with. It contains so many different shades that there is almost always one that matches your coat, sweater, or cardigan.
The large panels are reminiscent of a hand-painted patchwork. The checks are not rigid or perfectly symmetrical but have a more playful watercolor effect. It looks as if someone sat down with an enormous paint box and stopped at exactly the right moment.
You can pair this scarf with, for example:
- a dark blue, green, or black winter coat;
- a camel or sand-colored wool coat;
- a simple sweater in olive green, burgundy, or dark gray;
- a denim jacket on a cool spring day;
- a solid-colored dress or top that could use a little extra color.
And do you have a coat in a color you think nothing goes with? There is a good chance that one of the shades in this scarf is exactly what it needs.
Is the design woven or printed?
The colorful plaid design is printed on the wool fabric. Living Crafts uses a pattern inspired by a hand-painted design for this. This gives the color blocks a soft, artistic look rather than the sharp lines of a classic tartan.
The print does not feel thick or rubbery on the material. You can still feel the fine texture and suppleness of the wool. The ends of the scarf are finished with a subtle, short fringe.
75 by 200 centimeters: this really gives you options
With a size of approximately 75 x 200 cm, MULTI PLAIDS is generous without being awkwardly heavy. You can wear it in several ways:
- loosely around your neck, so the design remains clearly visible;
- wrapped once or twice on a cold day;
- draped broadly over your shoulders as a shawl;
- over a coat as a colorful eye-catcher;
- as an extra warm layer at the office or on the go.
On your bike, you can wrap it loosely around your neck. On the train, you can unfold it over your shoulders. And on the couch, it is officially still a scarf, although we certainly won't stop you from using it as a blanket.
Warm without a huge bundle of wool around your neck
Wool can retain a lot of heat without needing to be a very thick or heavy fabric. The scarf feels light and supple, yet forms a cozy layer around your neck and shoulders.
Furthermore, the fibers can absorb and release moisture. This means wool feels less clammy when you walk from outside into a warm building. Wool also naturally resists odors, so the scarf usually doesn’t need to be washed often.
Living Crafts describes the wool as soft. However, wool remains a natural fiber and every skin reacts differently. Are you very sensitive around your neck or do you find many wool garments itchy? Do come and feel the scarf for yourself first. We can enthusiastically claim it’s lovely, but your neck ultimately has the final say.
What makes MULTI PLAIDS sustainable?
The scarf is made entirely of wool and contains no polyester or acrylic to make the material cheaper or extra soft. Wool is a renewable natural fiber that can last for years with proper care. Because the fiber naturally holds fewer odors, the scarf requires much less frequent washing than many synthetic alternatives.
The wool is mulesing-free. This means the sheep have not been subjected to mulesing: a painful procedure where skin around the hindquarters is removed to prevent flystrike.
The scarf is produced for Living Crafts by Vrijesh Natural Fibre in Vapi, Gujarat, India. Living Crafts makes this production location public. The company has been GOTS-certified for years and works toward verified environmental and social standards within the production chain. This specific scarf, however, is offered as 100% pure wool and not separately as a GOTS-certified product. We like to be transparent about that distinction.
The most sustainable quality remains very practical: this is not a scarf that has to go out of style after one season. The colors are distinctive but not trend-sensitive. Maintain it well, wear it for a long time, and perhaps pass it on someday—that is what truly makes a beautiful wool scarf sustainable.
How to wash this wool scarf without a heart attack
The good news: wool almost never needs to be washed. Hang the scarf outside or in front of an open window after wearing it and let the fibers do their work. It will often smell fresh again afterwards.
Is there a small spot on it? Try to remove it carefully on the spot first. Do not rub hard, as this can cause the wool fibers to felt and damage the printed color.
If a full wash is necessary after all? Follow the care label and wash the scarf gently by hand in cool to lukewarm water. Use only a small amount of a suitable wool detergent with lanolin, such as Lanalicious.
Do not use a standard wash program, fabric softener, or bleach. Too much detergent, high temperatures, and excessive friction can damage both the wool and the colors. Do not let the scarf soak for long and ensure the wash and rinse water are at about the same temperature.
Do not wring it out; gently press the water from the fabric. Roll the scarf in a clean towel to absorb extra moisture if needed. Then, carefully reshape it and let it dry flat in the air. The tumble dryer is strictly off-limits—unless you want to end up with a wonderful doll-sized scarf.
In my video on washing wool, I show you step-by-step how to handle it. Additionally, always read the care label and our washing guide, which you will receive with your order.
