All about this product

FISHERMAN wool sweater MAEVE FAIRISLE SEAFOAM made from pure merino wool

This is the kind of sweater that almost makes you hope for the temperature to drop a little further. The FISHERMAN OUT OF IRELAND MAEVE FAIRISLE is a wonderfully soft and warm women's sweater made from 100% pure, mulesing-free merino wool. The speckled Donegal wool, the traditional Fair Isle pattern, and the greyish SEAFOAM color make it both distinctive and incredibly wearable.

The pattern runs all the way around the chest, shoulders, and back, making the sweater beautiful from every angle. The various teal, natural, and dark blue shades flow into each other beautifully. And between all that beauty, you can see the typical colored specks of Donegal yarn. As if someone had very carefully sprinkled confetti while spinning. Just enough, never too much.

Vera is wearing size L in the photo.

Why MAEVE is such a special wool sweater

  • Made from 100% pure merino wool
  • Mulesing-free wool
  • Soft, warm, and breathable quality
  • Speckled Donegal yarn
  • Traditional Fair Isle pattern around the shoulders
  • SEAFOAM color with teal, grey, and natural shades
  • Round neck with a ribbed trim
  • Comfortable, straight fit
  • Small slits on the sides
  • Pattern also continues on the back
  • Made in Ireland

Fair Isle, but calm and wearable

Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique where multiple colors form a graphic pattern together. On the MAEVE, the pattern runs as a wide band around the shoulders and the top of the sweater. This gives the sweater that classic Scandinavian-Irish winter atmosphere, without making you look like you're on your way to an ugly Christmas sweater party.

The natural-colored diamonds, dark blue lines, and soft teal sections contrast subtly against the greyish base. The horizontal structural stripes give the knit extra depth. The result is special enough to carry an entire outfit, but calm enough to keep pulling out of your closet for years to come.

The color SEAFOAM

Fisherman calls this color SEAFOAM. Think of a greyish teal base color, somewhere between soft sea green, light blue, and cool grey. Because of the Donegal yarn, you can see small specks in the wool in shades including rust, blue, natural, and white.

It is a color that is surprisingly easy to combine. Wear MAEVE with dark blue jeans, grey wool trousers, natural corduroy, or a long skirt. SEAFOAM has enough color to stand out, but remains calm enough not to end up on the "what do I actually wear this with?" pile after just one season.

How does the FISHERMAN MAEVE fit?

MAEVE has a comfortable, quite straight fit and does not sit tightly against the body. The circular-knit shoulder yoke ensures the Fair Isle pattern flows beautifully all the way around. There are small slits at the bottom, which allows the hem to drape nicely over your hips and prevents it from pulling when you move or sit down.

Vera is wearing size L in the photo. It fits her comfortably, with plenty of room around the chest, waist, and arms. If you like this relaxed fit, choose your usual size. If you want to wear the sweater a bit looser or wear a thicker layer underneath it, you might want to consider a size larger.

Are you between two sizes? Please feel free to contact us or come and try it on in Rotterdam. A wool sweater should feel cozy, but of course, you don't need to disappear into it.

Soft Donegal merino with colorful specks

MAEVE is made from 100% pure merino wool. This wool feels soft and comfortable and helps you stay warm without becoming stuffy. Wool can retain heat, absorb moisture, and breathe at the same time. Very pleasant during a brisk walk, but also when you get inside near the heater.

The wool is mulesing-free, just like the wool that Fisherman Out of Ireland uses for its sweaters. Mulesing involves removing the skin around a sheep's hindquarters to prevent infestation by fly larvae. This painful treatment was not used for this merino wool.

The speckled appearance is characteristic of Donegal yarn. Small fibers in different colors are incorporated into the wool during spinning. The colored dots are therefore not pills or irregularities, but rather part of its character. As a result, the sweater has much more depth up close than a completely solid knit.

Does merino wool always feel itch-free?

This merino wool feels soft, but every skin reacts differently to wool. Most people will find MAEVE pleasant to wear, while someone with very sensitive skin might prefer to wear a thin layer under the sweater.

A camisole or shirt made of wool and silk is ideal for this. This keeps a soft layer between your skin and the sweater while the materials continue to breathe well together. Are you very sensitive to wool? Then definitely come and feel and try on MAEVE in the shop.

What do you do if the sweater starts to pill?

Even good merino wool can pill a little at first. Due to movement and friction, loose fibers come to the surface of the yarn. You usually see this first under the arms, on the sides, or in places where a coat or bag rubs against the sweater.

Do not pull the fuzz balls off with your fingers. This can pull new fibers out of the knit and actually trigger more pilling. Instead, use a Gleener fabric shaver. This allows you to gently remove loose fuzz. After a few treatments, the pilling usually diminishes on its own.

How to care for MAEVE

Fortunately, you don't have to wash a wool sweater after every wear. First, hang MAEVE outside or by an open window for a night. Wool is less prone to picking up odors and, after a good airing, is often fresh enough for the next wear.

Does the sweater need to be washed after all? Use a reliable cold wool wash cycle and a small amount of Lanalicious wool detergent. Do not rub, do not wring, and do not put it in the dryer. Gently pull the damp sweater into shape and let it dry flat on a towel.

Store MAEVE preferably folded in your closet. Wool can stretch due to its own weight on a hanger, especially at the shoulders. Do you want to know exactly how Vera treats wool clothing? Watch her video on washing and caring for wool.

Wol is fantastisch

And just like that, you were gone!

Was koud of lauw
