FISHERMAN wool cable-knit sweater ANNAH HONEYCOMB APPLE in alpaca, merino, and cotton
This is not a color for those who prefer to blend completely into the background. And thankfully so. The FISHERMAN OUT OF IRELAND ANNAH HONEYCOMB APPLE is a distinctive wool cable-knit sweater with a rich honeycomb pattern and a fresh yellow-green color. ANNAH is knitted from 27% baby alpaca, 42% extra-fine merino wool, and 31% Pima cotton. It is warm and soft, but thanks to the cotton, it feels slightly lighter and more supple than a sweater made entirely of wool.
The honeycomb knit runs across the front, back, and sleeves, giving the sweater a great deal of texture. The front is slightly shorter, while the back is longer. Thanks to the side slits, the style drapes beautifully over your trousers or skirt without pulling tightly around the hips. And then there is the color, APPLE: somewhere between fresh apple green, lime, and olive. One thing is certain: dreary winter weather doesn't stand a chance with this sweater.

A cable-knit sweater with a distinctive honeycomb pattern
ANNAH is often described as a cable-knit sweater, but the pattern is actually even more refined. For this model, Fisherman uses a honeycomb stitch. By connecting loops and stitches in a unique way, a relief is created that resembles small honeycombs.
The pattern continues throughout the front, sleeves, and back, making the sweater beautiful from every angle. The texture catches the light differently, giving the color extra depth. It is clearly a sweater with character, yet without busy prints or large logos.
The open relief also makes the knit look airier than a compact, smooth-knit winter sweater. You get that warm, cozy look without feeling like you have stepped into a wool suit of armor.
The color APPLE
APPLE is a fresh yellow-green color with a hint of lime and olive. In bright daylight, the yellow-green comes out more strongly, while the color can appear warmer and more olive-toned indoors. The mélange yarn prevents the shade from looking flat or loud.
This color is surprisingly easy to combine. Dark blue denim forms a nice, calm contrast, as shown in the photos. APPLE also looks beautiful with anthracite, cream, dark brown, eggplant, and navy blue. And yes, you can of course wear it with black, but honestly, this sweater deserves a bit more imagination than that.
Three natural fibers in one sweater
The unique quality of ANNAH consists of three natural fibers that complement each other beautifully:
-
Baby alpaca provides warmth, softness, and a slightly fluffy appearance.
-
Extra-fine merino wool helps retain body heat while also being moisture-wicking and breathable.
-
Pima cotton makes the knit more supple and airy and gives the sweater extra durability.
The term "baby alpaca" refers to the fineness of the fibers and not necessarily the age of the animal. Particularly fine alpaca fibers are selected for this quality, which makes the yarn feel softer than many coarser alpaca varieties.
The extra-fine merino wool is mulesing-free, as is all the wool that Fisherman Out of Ireland uses for its knitwear. Mulesing is a painful procedure sometimes used to prevent flystrike, but that treatment has not been applied to the merino wool in this sweater.
How does the FISHERMAN ANNAH fit?
ANNAH has a comfortable, fairly straight fit. The front hits around the hip, while the back is longer and provides more coverage. There are slits on both sides, which allow the style to drape loosely over the hips and highlight the longer back panel.
The wide ribbed edges at the sleeves and hem give the soft sweater more shape and structure. The round neck is finished with ribbing and features a small notch at the front center. This subtle detail opens up the neckline slightly without becoming a true V-neck.
Because we do not list the size worn in these photos, we recommend checking the available product dimensions or size chart. If you are unsure about the fit or length, please contact us or come try ANNAH on in Rotterdam. We would be happy to assist you.
Shorter at the front, longer at the back
The difference in length is not a production error or the result of a stubborn washing machine. ANNAH is intentionally made longer in the back, creating a sleeker, slightly shorter silhouette at the front, while the back drapes nicely over the hips.
The side slits connect both lengths and provide extra freedom of movement, so you can easily wear the sweater over trousers or a skirt without the hem riding up with every step.
Does ANNAH feel soft?
The baby alpaca and extra-fine merino wool give the material a soft, slightly fluffy appearance, while the Pima cotton ensures a more supple and airy feel. However, every skin is different; if you are very sensitive to wool or alpaca, we recommend trying the sweater on first or wearing a thin shirt underneath.
A form-fitting shirt made of wool and silk is a great base layer, as the natural materials remain breathable together, meaning you don't need to wash the sweater as often.
Pilling is a natural part of alpaca and wool
With a new sweater made of alpaca and merino wool, small pills or balls may appear at first. Movement and friction cause loose fibers to come to the surface, especially under the arms, along the sides, and where a bag or coat rubs against the sweater.
Do not pull these pills off with your fingers, as you might pull new fibers out of the knit and cause more pilling. Instead, use a Gleener fabric shaver. Treat the textured surface carefully and without pressing too hard. After a few treatments, the pilling usually decreases.
How to care for the ANNAH HONEYCOMB
ANNAH does not need to be washed after every wear. It is better to let it air out overnight outside or near an open window. Wool and alpaca are less prone to absorbing odors and are often fresh enough to wear again after airing out.
If the sweater does need washing, use a reliable cold wool wash cycle and a small amount of Lanalicious wool detergent. Do not rub, wring, or brush, and never put it in the dryer. Carefully reshape the damp sweater, paying attention to the length difference between the front and back, and let it dry flat.
Store ANNAH folded in your closet. On a hanger, the weight of the yarn and the open knit structure can distort the shoulders or length. For more information, see Vera's video on caring for wool clothing and read the wash guide included with your purchase.
