RUDI organic cotton flannel chino – softer than a chino is supposed to be
A smart pair of trousers that feels like you've secretly snuck out in your loungewear. That is more or less the RUDI flannel chino from Knowledge Cotton Apparel. It looks like a classic chino, but is made from super-soft cotton flannel. Smart enough for work or a dinner out, comfortable enough for every day, and definitely not one of those stiff trousers that takes six months to break in.
The RUDI has a regular fit with straight legs and is made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton. We have it in three colours: classic dark blue NIGHT SKY, the beautiful blue VINTAGE INDIGO, and dark green FOREST NIGHT.

Flannel, but without the wool
When you think of flannel, you might immediately think of wool, but these trousers are made entirely of organic cotton. 'Flannel' refers to the fabric and the finish, not necessarily the material. The cotton weave is softly brushed, giving it that warm, touchable feel.
The fabric feels softer and warmer than a regular smooth chino, yet remains pleasantly breathable. This makes the RUDI a wonderful pair of trousers for autumn, winter, and crisp spring days. And yes: while writing this text, we probably petted them more often than was strictly necessary.
Fit and lengths
The RUDI has a regular fit with straight legs: not tight around your legs, but not overly baggy either. Because the fabric is 100% organic cotton, there is no elastane in it. So don't expect sweatpants disguised as a chino. The soft flannel provides comfort, while the trousers retain their neat shape.
We sell the RUDI in two lengths:

Length 32: inside leg length approximately 81.3 cm. Knowledge Cotton Apparel recommends this length for a body height of approximately 179–189 cm.

Length 34: inside leg length approximately 86.4 cm. Knowledge Cotton Apparel recommends this length for a body height of approximately 187–197 cm.
This is, of course, a guideline. Leg length and body proportions vary by person, so if in doubt, compare the inside leg length with a pair of trousers you already own that fits well.

The sizes below are from the official Knowledge Cotton Apparel size chart. Body measurements are given in centimetres. Measure your waist circumference where your trousers normally sit and your hips at the widest point.

Length 32 is available at Natur-el in waist sizes 29 to 36. Length 34 starts at waist size 30 and runs through to size 36. Size 35 does not exist within this sizing system.
Which colour will you choose?
NIGHT SKY is a classic dark blue. Smarter than denim and softer than black, making it go with almost anything. Combine it with a shirt, wool jumper, turtleneck, or just a good T-shirt.
VINTAGE INDIGO is a beautiful blue colour with a slightly more relaxed look. Great if you like wearing blue but sometimes find dark blue a bit too formal. Looks beautiful with natural tones, rust, green, ochre, and dark brown.
FOREST NIGHT is a deep dark green. Calm from a distance, distinctly greener than your standard trousers up close. Fantastic with off-white, camel, dark blue, burgundy, and – for those who understand that life is short – pink.
From appointments to the weekend
With a shirt, belt, and leather shoes, the RUDI is perfect for the office, an appointment, or a dinner. With sneakers, a T-shirt, and a cardigan, it immediately becomes a relaxed weekend pair of trousers.
The straight leg combines just as easily with sturdy boots as it does with low-top sneakers. Because of the soft flannel texture, it also looks very nice with other natural materials such as wool, corduroy, and knitted cotton.
What makes the RUDI a more sustainable chino?
These trousers are made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton. Cultivating organic cotton uses no synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, unlike conventional cotton farming. The GOTS certification also sets requirements for fibre processing and includes social criteria for the people working within the certified production chain.
This doesn't mean a new pair of trousers has zero impact. Growing, dyeing, producing, and transporting still require resources and energy. The gain here lies in certified organic fibres, supervision of the production chain, and a timeless design that you can wear for years in many different ways.
Washing instructions for cotton flannel
Let the trousers air out after wearing; often, washing isn't necessary yet. If they do need to go in the machine, wash them inside out on a mild cycle and always follow the temperature on the wash label. Use a small amount of mild detergent and wash dark colours with similar shades.
A wool wash cycle and wool detergent are not needed for these trousers: the RUDI is made of cotton. It is better not to put them in the tumble dryer. This can cause shrinkage and make the soft flannel texture wear out faster. Gently pull the trousers into shape after washing and leave them to air dry.
Close zips and velcro on other clothing items before starting the washing machine, as these can damage the brushed fabric. Dark or intensely coloured trousers may also lose some colour during the first few washes. That is not unusual, but it is a good reason not to put them in with your whites.

Is this chino made of wool?
No. The trousers feel warm and soft due to the flannel finish, but they are made from 100% organic cotton.
Is there stretch in the trousers?
No, the fabric does not contain elastane. The regular fit provides room for movement, but the fabric itself is not elastic.
How does the RUDI fit?
The RUDI has a regular fit with straight legs. It is not tight, nor is it extra baggy. Compare your body measurements with the official size chart above or contact us for personal advice.
What is the difference between length 32 and 34?
Length 32 has an inside leg length of approximately 81.3 cm and length 34 has an inside leg length of approximately 86.4 cm. Length 34 is therefore about 5.1 cm longer.
Are these trousers suitable for winter?
Yes. The softly brushed cotton flannel feels warmer than a regular smooth chino, making it very comfortable during the colder months.
Can the RUDI go in the tumble dryer?
We advise against it. Air drying is gentler on the fit, colour, and soft texture of the fabric.
