All about this product

ARMEDANGELS men's shirt PATCHWORK PETROL made of organic cotton

Checked, but with a twist. The ARMEDANGELS PATCHWORK PETROL shirt for men consists of various plaid patterns playfully distributed across the fabric panels. Some checks are larger, others finer, and the lines are intentionally not aligned everywhere. This is precisely what gives this shirt its unique patchwork look.

The dark combination of petrol, green, blue-grey, and charcoal keeps the overall look subtle and wearable. The shirt is made of 100% organic cotton, is GOTS-certified, and features a relaxed fit. Thanks to the lightweight woven fabric, you can wear it buttoned up as a shirt, or easily open over a T-shirt.

Why PATCHWORK PETROL is so special

  • Made of 100% organic cotton
  • GOTS-certified
  • Patchwork of different plaid patterns
  • Dark petrol, green, and charcoal tones
  • Relaxed fit
  • Regular length
  • Lightweight woven fabric
  • Comfort stretch due to the fabric construction
  • Shirt collar with button-down details
  • Two patch chest pockets
  • Corozo buttons, also known as tagua nut
  • Subtle embroidered ARMEDANGELS logo
  • Can also be worn open as a light overshirt

Patchwork without the clown suit

Patchwork can often be quite exuberant, but ARMEDANGELS has taken a clever approach with this shirt. The different plaids all remain within the same dark color family. As a result, you can clearly see the patchwork without every fabric panel demanding separate attention.

The front is divided into panels with varying check sizes. The chest pockets also each have their own unique pattern placement. The play with the checks continues on the sleeves and the back. The result is asymmetrical, yet balanced.

From a distance, it looks mostly like a dark checked shirt. Only up close do you see how all the different parts have been combined. Just striking enough for people who want to wear something special, but have no need for a shirt that enters the room five minutes before they do.

The color PETROL

In this case, PETROL is not a bright blue-green, but a deep, greyed-out combination of petrol green, dark blue, and charcoal. The black and grey undertones make the shirt rugged and easy to combine.

Wear it with black or dark blue jeans, grey trousers, or chinos in sand, brown, or olive green. Because the shirt itself already contains various checks, a quiet, solid-colored garment underneath or alongside it usually works best.

Although, of course, you are free to combine prints if that makes you happy. We won’t be checking with a ruler to see if all the checks are strictly following the rules. After all, this shirt doesn't do that either.

Relaxed fit for a loose look

The PATCHWORK PETROL shirt has a relaxed fit. It is slightly roomier around the chest, waist, and arms than a tightly tailored shirt. The shoulders have a regular finish and the length is regular.

Choose your usual size if you want the intended relaxed fit. If you are between sizes and mainly plan to wear the shirt buttoned up? Then you can try the smaller size for a slightly neater fit. If you prefer to wear it open over a T-shirt or long-sleeve, choose the larger size.

The roomier shape provides plenty of freedom of movement and suits the patchwork design well. This model is not meant to pull tightly against the body. The fabric panels and different checks come out beautifully when the shirt fits a bit looser.

Shirt and light overshirt

The fabric is lightweight and woven. This means the PATCHWORK PETROL shirt is not as thick and stiff as a traditional flannel overshirt. You can wear it simply buttoned up, under a sweater or jacket, but also as an extra layer over a T-shirt.

Worn open, the shirt immediately becomes more informal. Roll up the sleeves and combine it with a solid T-shirt and jeans for a simple daily outfit. Buttoned up, with dark trousers and dress shoes, the same shirt gets a much more polished look.

The button-down details at the collar keep the points neatly in place. Convenient when you wear the shirt under a sweater or jacket, but also just nice because the collar won't decide to live a life of its own halfway through the day.

Two spacious chest pockets

On the front, there are two patch chest pockets. They reinforce the casual overshirt look and are also practical for small items. The different placement of the plaid on the pockets makes them part of the patchwork design as well.

A pair of glasses, a card, or a small note fits in perfectly. We would spare the fabric from carrying a phone, a thick wallet, and a complete key ring all at once. A chest pocket is handy, but it doesn't have to be a toolbox.

Comfort stretch without added elastane

Although the main material consists entirely of organic cotton, the fabric is described as comfort stretch. The way the cotton is woven provides some natural room for movement. This makes the shirt feel less stiff without needing to add elastane to the material composition.

Don't expect a highly elastic stretch shirt, but rather a woven cotton fabric that moves comfortably with you. Combined with the relaxed fit, this ensures high wearing comfort.

Corozo buttons

The buttons are made of corozo, also known as tagua nut. This is a hard, plant-based material made from the nuts of the tagua palm. Corozo has a natural look and is often used as an alternative to plastic buttons.

Because corozo is a natural material, small differences in color and pattern may occur. That actually fits perfectly with a shirt where not every panel and every check needs to be exactly the same.

100% organic cotton

The PATCHWORK PETROL shirt is made of 100% organic cotton. Organic cotton cultivation follows stricter rules regarding the use of harmful pesticides and synthetic fertilizers than conventional cotton cultivation. That is better for the soil, the environment, and the people who work with the cotton.

Cotton breathes, feels familiar, and can be worn in different seasons. The lightweight fabric makes this shirt suitable as an independent top layer, but also as part of a layered autumn or winter outfit.

What does GOTS-certified mean?

GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. This certification not only looks at the organic origin of the cotton fiber but also sets requirements for the further processing of the textile. This includes monitoring chemicals, environmental impact, and social conditions within the production chain.

Even organic and GOTS-certified textiles have an impact, of course. Every garment requires raw materials, energy, water, and transport. The most important next step is therefore: wear it often, take good care of it, and use it for as long as possible. A timeless checked shirt with a distinct character fortunately has good chances of that.

How to care for your PATCHWORK shirt

Only wash the shirt when necessary. Are there no stains and does it still smell fresh? Let it air out well first. Washing less frequently helps keep the cotton fibers, dark colors, and different plaid patterns looking good for longer.

Turn the shirt inside out before washing and wash it with similar dark colors. You can close a few buttons to prevent the garment from twisting too much during washing, but do not pull the closure tight. Always follow the washing label for the temperature and program.

Use a mild detergent and preferably avoid the dryer. High temperatures can cause cotton to shrink and make dark colors fade faster. Hang the shirt neatly after washing and shape the collar, pockets, and button placket.

Do you want to iron it? That is usually easiest when the fabric is still slightly damp. Preferably iron inside out and always adhere to the temperature on the wash label.

Biologisch katoen is bijzonder

And just like that, you were gone!
