By choosing high-quality natural fibers and careful craftsmanship, a sweater is created that is intended to be worn for years. We find that a lot more sustainable than buying a new sweater every season that loses its shape after being worn a few times.
How to care for your alpaca sweater
The great thing about alpaca and merino wool is that you almost never have to wash the sweater. Letting it air out outside is usually enough. Wool hardly absorbs any odors and has natural self-cleaning properties.
Is washing necessary after all? Then wash the sweater gently by hand or use only a wool cycle if the care label allows it. Use cold water or a maximum of 30 degrees and a small amount of special detergent for alpaca, such as Washpaca. For alpaca, it is better not to use detergent with added lanolin.
Do not wring, do not tumble dry, and do not let it dry on a clothes hanger. Gently press the water out of the sweater, bring it into shape, and let it dry flat. This prevents the knit from stretching.
With a soft, airy quality, some fluff or pilling may occur at the beginning. That is not a sign of poor quality, but is part of loose, fine natural fibers. Carefully remove fluff with a good fabric shaver, such as a Gleener. Usually, it will decrease on its own afterwards.
