What does 18k gold-plated brass mean?

The base of the ring is made of brass. A thin layer of 18-karat gold has been applied over it. Consequently, the ring has the warm look of gold but is not made of solid gold.

A gold-plated layer does not stay exactly the same forever. Friction, moisture, soap, perfume, and the natural acidity of your skin can cause the gold layer to lighten over time. How quickly this happens varies per person and depends heavily on how often you wear and care for the ring.

Extensive care for your gold-plated ring

Avoid water and moisture

Take off SUNSHINE before showering, swimming, exercising, washing dishes, or cleaning. Chlorine, salt water, soap, and perspiration can all affect the gold-plated layer. Did the ring get wet? Gently pat it dry immediately with a soft cloth.

Be careful with perfume and skincare products

Perfume, hand cream, sunscreen, hairspray, and hand sanitizer can affect the shine and color of the gold layer. Therefore, apply skincare products first, let them absorb well, and only then put on the ring.

Clean it gently

After wearing, gently wipe the ring clean with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use lemon juice, vinegar, toothpaste, baking soda, alcohol, abrasives, or harsh jewelry polish. Also, cleaning agents specifically intended for bare brass or silver are not suitable: they can actually polish away the thin layer of gold.

Is the ring a bit dirty? Gently wipe it with a barely damp soft cloth and dry it completely afterward. Do not let the ring soak and do not scrub with a brush.

Store it separately and dry

Store SUNSHINE in a soft fabric pouch or a closed jewelry box, preferably separate from other jewelry. This prevents scratches and unnecessary friction. Do not leave it in a damp bathroom for long periods and avoid direct sunlight during storage.

When your skin turns green

If the gold-plated layer becomes thinner after much wear, the copper in the brass can react with moisture, skin oils, or the acidity of your skin. This can sometimes cause a greenish tinge. This is usually harmless and can be easily washed off your skin. It varies greatly by person and does not mean the ring is of poor quality.
