Airing it out for a night is usually enough. You can do that outside or in the bathroom. If you store your garment in the summer, make sure to do it in a way that moths cannot get to it. If you do want to wash it, do so very carefully by hand or on a wool wash cycle at a low temperature. ALWAYS use a detergent suitable for wool and silk. But, even better, don't wash it. Wool can pill; this is a natural characteristic. Do not pull at the pills, as this will make it worse. It is better to use a good fabric shaver. Always test it on a small area before you start the main job.
